poem-Not That Road April 2, 2021

That way lies madness, dear.

Keep your eyes on the path you chose.

What might have been?

What could have been?

All dangerous conjecture.

Embrace today.

Celebrate this self, right here.

Right now.

Embrace what is.

poem-glow? April 1, 2021

Oh, yeah.

I used to gleam.

Shining sparkling day-glo shimmer

You know what I mean?

But Covid, man.

It’s worn me out.

Dulled my bright-light

What’s this exhaustion about?

It’s just going to work,

same as before

Just wearing a mask

washing hands, washing hands, and washing some more.

What’s so tiring about that?

I have absolutely no clue

But I’m heading to bed now at dinner time.

How are you?

#NaPoWriMo Day 1. The official prompt from napowrimo.net was a video that triggered my TBI sensory over-load so I couldn’t watch it. :-/ I’ve come home from work, and again it’s not even 6 p.m. and I’m ready to crawl into bed with an eye mask, a heating pad, and an audio book. I can’t believe how exhausted I am all the time now! How’s a girl supposed to get poetry written, let alone books and stories! Arg. I hope you’re feeling less exhausted.

He’s just not that into you

The world is large and full of fish

swimming through plastic

bread bag jellyfish by the belly full

Walk, don’t run!

Dead man’s float

Be a Star fish, children!

I can make you a star, baby!

Grow a limb

Waggle pseudopods

False feet

Steppin’ out with my baby

Can’t go wrong, when it’s this right

Mr. Right’s all wrong again

Really,

the problem is

She’s just not into him,

Move on!

How much is that doggy in the window?

.

NaPoWriMo prompt for today is to write a poem that sounds like it’s meant to be spoken aloud.  The examples were constructed with juxtaposition of original words with snippets of commonly heard things, sayings, song lyrics, conversations, etc.

It’s 4 20 on Poetry Friday.

Half my class is missing.

Are they taking the day off to celebrate

with a joint?

The rest of us are celebrating poetry,

writing to prompts, savouring

chocolate caramel cupcakes

and cheesecake brownies

(not THOSE kind of brownies).

We’re clean living poets,

saving rebellion

for after school.

.

#Napowrimo prompt today was “Rebellion”

I wrap my arms around this dream and squeeze.

I unfold expectations, unwrapping a gift of discovery

What am I?

He wraps his arms around her dream and squeezes.

She unfolds expectations, unwraps discovery

What is she with him?

What is he with her?

What are they in their dreams?

You wrap your arms around your dream and squeeze

Unfold your expectations, unwrap your gift.

What are you?

You are

the gift.

I bought a yoga block today

To help me do those trickier positions.

I have the yoga mat in a nice new case

at the top of the stairs.

I bought a couple of yoga CDs

and a stack of yoga magazines.

Occasionally I stretch my arms and think

first position of the sun salutation!

Someday, I going to turn on the CD

or go to a class

or take the block from its package.

I have faith in me.

I’ll do it.

Eventually.

You’ve packed the flourishing greenery

Back inside this box you’ve made

A green house cube

stuffed with verdure seeking escape

Seeking opportunity to bloom again

To scatter seed

To create the future.

But you are heedless of this dream;

inside your  cube tender greens are safe

From weeds.

I’m weary of tunnels.

Closing in around me,

narrowing the future

to a  pinpoint of possibility

ahead of the foreboding train.

You had plans

expectations

fought to bring them to fruition.

Imagine your surprise

when they were realized,

to find what you’d surmised

to be a paradise, what you fantasized

is actually a ruination

and your frustration forces a

mutation of

your plans.

poem- four centuries April 23, 2016

Four centuries

before I was born

Will Shakespeare arrived

on the planet.

Four centuries ago today

Will’s body died

but his voice remains,

his words will still enthrall,

for centuries.
