And here begins

another new calendar,

Yesterday just the same,

but everything new, they say.

No hurt to take today

to contemplate,

what has been,

what is,

what may be.

No hurt to take today,

to ruminate,

to declare

that this twelve months

will bring unprecedented

opportunities,

successes beyond expectation,

joys that cause hearts to sparkle,

health in abundance.

This twelve months

will bring contentment

and satisfaction

appreciation,

and celebration.

My daughter says

.   my hair’s too long;

.   it drags my formerly too round face

.   down.

My daughter says

.   my car’s too girlish;

.   pastel seats and butterflies

.   are frivolous.

My daughter says

.   my voice is too strident;

.   her ears are are hurt

.    by their happy cadence.

To my daughter I say

.    life’s too short to be

.    a fuddy-duddy*

.    before you’re thirty.

It walks like a duck

And talks like a duck

except

when it

woofs

like a retriever

Sometime Occam fails to slice

the correct solution with his razor.

Anticipation building.

Preparations made.

At the back of the mind

Really?

Surely there will come disappointment

instead of you?

You had plans

expectations

fought to bring them to fruition.

Imagine your surprise

when they were realized,

to find what you’d surmised

to be a paradise, what you fantasized

is actually a ruination

and your frustration forces a

mutation of

your plans.

She is nestled up against him

waiting for the whispered words

of adoration, desire.

He sighs contently, and tells her

she is cuddly.

That sounds like a teddy bear she says.

He pulls her closer, nuzzling into her neck,

but a single tear rolls down her cheek.

There is always an excuse

for not meeting expectations.

Someone else is always to blame

that you couldn’t meet expectations.

Everyone else is expected to leap

to meet your expectations.

Could you please just accept

responsibility for your actions?

.

.

Just a little venting.  🙂

Dude,

She’s just looking for a bit of empathy,

a wrap around her shoulders whisper in her ear,

“It’ll be okay. It’s you and me together, babe” moment.

She’s just hoping for a show of affection,

a finger trailing up her arm shooting sparks,

a kiss held for long enough to know you mean it.

She’s just waiting for you to come back

from wherever it is you’ve been wandering,

just wishing for you,

so don’t call her unreasonable, dude.

Her disappointment is justified.

She told you, didn’t she?

You saw it in her eyes and the set of her lips.

She had expectations,

and you, generally so sensible to duty,

ignored overt and covert messages,

and carried on blithely

as steam gathered in her head and shot out her ears

in silent reprobation.

Then you shrugged your shoulders, quirked your eyebrows,

and said, “What?” with a tone that flipped all switches of her self-control

and you were astonished at the explosion of emotion

thus released.

She told you.  Why weren’t you listening?

I thought I knew

what was coming next,

but all I know

is nothing is what I expect.
