Today my class is learning about the PANTOUM poetry form, while in the US, protesters have broken into congress amid riots, so here’s our demo pantoum.

Throw me a line
What’s going on?
I need a sign
Sanity’s gone

What’s going on?
There’s all this shouting
Sanity’s gone
The laws they’re flouting

There’s all this shouting
Is there any hope?
The laws they’re flouting
This filth needs some soap

Is there any hope?
My heart is afraid
This filth needs some soap
A nation’s betrayed

My heart is afraid.
Will the people declare
Their nation’s betrayed?
Does anyone care?

Will the people declare
this is the sign?
Will anyone care
to throw us a line?

A pantoum for a winter evening

Soft snow falling
Mysteries in hidden faces
Lost memories calling
Eyes whisper with brief gazes

Mysteries, hidden faces
Warm glances, tender touches
Eyes whisper with brief gazes
Sweet comfort, hesitant rushes

Warm glances, tender touches
Fire crackles, hearth heat
Sweet comfort, hesitant rushes
In the silence, our hearts beat

Fire crackles, hearth heat
Lost memories calling
In the silence, our hearts beat
Soft snow falling.

The morning skies were grey

but they saw the sashay

and knew it wasn’t a day

to stay that way, you

might construe something at play,

but my boots made the sky turn blue!

FWIW- I was wearing my purple velvet, sparky embossed leather and black patent leather Fluevog Atria boots today. No such thing as ‘too much.’ 😉

Once again

the adage’s proven true,

when you point at someone,

three fingers point back to you.

What you’re calling out

is probably your issue, too;

the louder you shout,

the clearer the cue!

I keep checking the email

Certain I’ve missed notification.

Maybe it’s time to accept

I missed the mark.  Vexation.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride

is better than missing the celebration.

When you’re sure this is the one,

anticipation’s crushed by negation.

This is my only today

One opportunity to be

One chance to choose my way

One day to seize opportunities

This is my only today

.

This path is not the only way

I may choose other vistas to see

I may have new speeches to say

I may see what’s ugly beautifully

That path is not the only way.

The moon is a street light

dimming the gleam of stars

while amphibian love songs

fill the summer night.

I’ll never know

if I hide below

if I never go

beyond the flow.

poem- savings November 18, 2015

When Brianna asked why the Brits have such horrible toilet paper,

“Hearts of oak are our men,” Roger intoned, “stainless steel are their bums. It builds the national character.”

Diana Gabaldon in
Dragonfly in Amber

The government is loudly raving

school districts must  search for savings!

As they replaced all our paper dispensers

with giant boxes, our sphinxters grew tenser

The paper that’s extruded, (please trust this fact)

is a complete and absolute pain on the ass.

We’ve had to get tougher as the years go by

but this toilet paper, with its single thick, crispy ply,

is taking it a step too far.   If *Christie’s contract wasn’t enough,

You’re scraping us raw.  Yeah.  These days teaching is rough.

The government doesn’t seem to register

we don’t need to have stronger character!

.

true story  :-/

* Christie Clark is the current Premier of BC, and former Minister of Education.  Teachers dislike her for her destruction and defunding of education in BC.

What a day, so much fun

but energy reserves are done

I drag myself into the house

wrap my arms around my spouse

Write you a poem, and then I’m gone

heading to bed with a jaw cracking yawn.
