I want bongos for my birthday

beat beat beat

Oh I want them in the worst way

beat beat beat

Listen to the poets

go at the words

Have you heard their thoughts curled

swirled

unfurled

about their heads?

Those poets glow, man

beat beat beat

I wanna go find some bongos, man

Find the beat

fire the heat

be complete with the time, the rhyme,

Oh so sublime

beat beat beat

Bongos, man.

Yeah.

.

.

(My birthday was this week.  I did NOT get bongos.  Boo hoo.)

(Or a beret or tight black pants, though that’s probably for the best).

Oh sir, your manure pile is deep!

Dung beetles are digging, they scurry and creep.

Oh sir, please stop expecting that we’re venerating

the stench that you’re generating!

Bombousity and pompousity do not disguise

what is wise, you realize?  The stench will rise

in quivering waves to the skies!

While you quip and you gloat, we see that the source

is not sheep, goat or horse; the muck’s clearly emenating

from your posterior aspect, and while some might declare

that’s your superior asset, I’m estimating the affair could use

less regulating and speculating so I’m delegating!

I’m calling the villagers, we’re gathering shovels

Enough with this sir!  Stop slathering troubles

you’ve made with this crap pile; stop being so hostile

quit wallowing in this manure of your making

and swallow this brown pie that you’ve been baking.

Enough with this hideous idiocy!

Grab a shovel and clean up.

Be part of the team.

Put a cork in the hole.

Don’t try grabbing control.

Accept your strong role:

Help us all meet our goal!

.

.

(We all know someone like this, don’t we?  Or several someones?) 😉

Poem- cause a scene! June 27, 2015

(For Des- ERS’s social justice queen!)

.

Let’s all cause a scene.

Rock the boat.

Let’s all convene.

Cut out that throat.

Let’s burst a spleen.

Cast the deciding vote.

Let’s careen around corners

demean the disorder.

It’s not mean, it’s justice,

to cause a scene!

poem- The Scientific Method June 25, 2015

Today I was challenged to have a poem about The Scientific Method in slam style on my blog by 10 p.m.  Challenge complete!

In case you’ve forgotten the components…

Scientific method-

  • Recognize problem
  • Define problem
  • formulate hypothesis
  • collect data
  • analyze data
  • confirm or disconfirm hypothesis

THE POEM:

Recognize the problem

form definition of the complication

formulation, computation,

I hypothesize;

I strategize.

All the data I analyze

analyze

analyze.

I synthesize the truth of this

have I confirmed my hypothesis?

If not, then I begin again

Being careful of instability,

endeavour to control variabilities

Recognition of the definition

controlling the conditions

again I must hypothesize

strategize, and analyze.

Circles spin, cycle again, once more begin!

The method of the scientists

consists always of the hypothesis,

that’s altered, trimmed, and twisted,

Endless scientific fight to determine

which truths are right!

poem-heel! June 6, 2015

Her heels

hold back healing

but she feels

without stealing

opportunities for heels

her soul won’t heal,

whole soles heal heels.

.

.

(wishful thinking, that.)

poem-with alacrity May 30, 2015

(for DG)  🙂

In whatever capacity

you deal with animousity,

develop a good strategy

to sort out dreaded calumny,

then avoid falling into laxity

and resolve it with alacrity!

.

.

Another poem dedicated (with tongue in cheek) to Outlander author, Diana Gabaldon.  The phrase ‘with alacrity’ appears frequently in Outlander, and whenever it does I shout enthusiastically “WITH ALACRITY!” and chuckle.  (Alacrity means haste, FYI).  It’s silly, but it is not much different than throwing boxes of KD at a Barenaked Ladies concert or toast during Rocky Horror Picture Show. (Neither of which I’ve done, unfortunately, so I have to settle with shouting to a book.  Kind of sad, really.)  😉

poem-filled May 16, 2015

I’m filled with words

Your words.

My words.

Our words.

A story concocted in laughter.

A story unraveling fears.

A story exploding conjecture.

A story that brings forth your tears.

I am filled with our words

softly spoken

I am filled with our words

shouted loud

I am filled with our words

barely whispered

I am filled with our words

lacking sounds.

Your words.

My words.

Our

story.

.

.

Enjoying a lovely weekend with amazing authors like Charles De Lint, Kathryn Para, Anne De Grace at the Word on the Lake Writers’ Festival.  Collected a lovely certificate and cheque for a writing contest prize, as well. 🙂

poem-tryst May 11, 2015

He cries when you sees you,

low whimpers of delight.

His frailness is endearing

if it doesn’t keep you up at night.

He rubs his head against you

he murmurs adoration

When you scratch behind his ears

his tail waves in celebration.

His love is pure and when he looks

so deeply in your eyes

You know these daily trysts

will last until he dies.

.

.

(and if he’s as old as my boy is, that may not be as long as one would hope).
