Perhaps, because I’m reading

Dust bunnies scamper across my floors

hiding beneath tables, gathering behind doors.

Perhaps, because I’m reading

Dishes stack into tall piles

and papers are exploding in spurts, beyond their files.

Perhaps, because I’m reading

I ignore the telephone,

but then, because I’m reading,

I’m content within my home.

I’m tired of this hacking cough

I wish these bugs would bugger off.

It’s hard to breathe; I’m prone to sneeze.

I wish this cough would stop!

Another year older

Another year wiser?

Another year employed.

Another year, analyser

Advise ‘er to be bolder.

Fifteen floors high

City lights  in empty offices

Row after row of cubicles glow

under the auspices of what dissipation

do they toss dollars to the sky?

As snow creeps down the mountain

I thread through the maze and take to the skies.

I’m only leaving you for a few days,

but my sighs reflect how bereft it is

to be on my own, far from the one who

makes my heart beat.

Far from you.

If

I am not beautiful

to you,

I am not the one whom you should wake next to.

you should not woo;

Lest you regret your nuptial day

and prove untrue with

someone who

is

beautiful to

you.

poem-distrust October 17, 2015

There was something.

There was something in that bombastic laugh

that set a tingle up my spine,

something not quite right that climbed out from behind your eyes,

incised the benefit of the doubt.

There was something that kept me holding back

long before your strange attack.

Perhaps my intuition,

just knew it wasn’t safe to trust?

Free

might not be all it’s cracked up to be.

If where you are, you’re unhappy

what improvements do you foresee?

What will you change inside you?

Because here’s something true

unless something within is new

Your baggage’s just dragging after you!

You’re just bringing the same self you knew

The next adventure

awaits the sunrise.

Have faith it’ll be better

than you surmise.

When you choose what brings you joy

When you choose who gives you laughter

When you choose what makes you sing

When you choose who really matters

Then each moment and each thing

you do, makes happiness deploy.
