Wrapped around my leg

munching a clattering antler

fuzzy black love.

.

.

Puppies are so sweet when they’re not chewing your glasses or devouring a black ballpoint pen on your cream leather sofa…

“I am only responsible for my own choices.  I am choosing to tell my story.  Who listens to it is not my burden; telling it is.”

poem-foggy

I have been walking in a fog

My mind blurred at the edges,

thoughts soft as cirrocumulus

passing above on a summer day.

Nothing feels important enough

to rise from the stupor.  My pilot light,

that creative spark is not burning

strongly enough to penetrate the haze.

Summer’s changing shape

has consequences.

poem- moon glow August 3, 2016

Upon my chest, the moonstone pendant sits.

I gaze down at a clear rock streaked with white

and wonder what happened to the glow that

captivated me from the display case.

.

Busy at work,

“I’m sorry,” the lady says, “I don’t mean to stare, but

does your necklace have a light in it?”

“Yes,” another says, “I was wondering that, too.

It’s beaming from your chest!  It’s so amazing!

What kind of stone is that?”

.

Moonstone, you teach me a lesson:

While we are looking down at something, we may not see its potential

to reflect a glorious light.

In unexpected moments, a glow reflects what it can be.

It’s not in the wishes.

It’s in the moments.

The reality.

The day to day.

It’s in consistency.

Trust me.

This is not where I expected to be,

but they were right when they said

if you don’t plan where you’re going

you may not like where you end up.

So I am not staying.

The view is crushing.

The map is out, and every step of this journey

is planned.  Tour guide at the ready,

ready to keep me going in the right direction.

I know the next destination, and I’m setting off

on a pilgrimage of sacrifice,

to atone for foolish wanderings,

and find the self I lost along the way.

Evening chorus

is al fresco dining

‘Hello out there!’

‘Where are you, baby?

‘Over here, boys!’

Amphibian karaoke.

Beating out its rhythm of

summer romance.

We never know

what words will wrap around someone’s heart

and make a day bearable.

We never know

what actions will give strength to someone’s resolve

and encourage tomorrow.

.

.

What a gift it is when someone from long ago calls to say that you made a profound difference in their life.  How humbling it is to know that we touch so many people, and to be reminded how important it is to appreciate those we meet from day to day.

Ah, you with your honeyed tongue

whispering words that make me feel

nervous of my sweet tooth.
