poem- spring? March 15, 2014

Last night

I fell asleep planning

an ensemble:

beige, flowing garments

open shoes

bare skin, no socks.

Spring is here!

Celebrate!

I awoke

to see snowflakes filling the sky

giant two inch diameter

behemoth flakes

mocking my dreams of spring.

Wardrobe re-think.

Boots today.

Again.

Still.

Between

Mist kissed mountains,

Subtle gradations of grey

mark lake and sky;

an eagle sails by

in search of spring.

eyes droop closed.

Bald eagle

standing on turned over earth

Watching the cars go by on the highway

(or pretending to,

to give the small creatures

an illusion of safety).

Bald eagle

normally surveying

road and field from  high above

is checking out a new perspective.

I wonder whether he prefers

dirt to sky?

The snow is melting!

I hear water tumbling like a waterfall

dripping into pool.

Cascading down my window blinds

puddling inside my door.

The snow is melting!

and I need a new roof.

Winter

marching

heavily through spring.

Winter

march

away,

and take

all this falling snow

with you.

.

.

Heavy snow today, making the highway treacherous.  Fun drive to work.  We’re ready for less white and more warmth in the air!

Sunlight stretches long

beams across dazzling new green

fields glinting with dew.

Snows are melting; spring is come

This Rotary year is almost done.

As we reflect on projects from the year

upon our activities both far and near,

We’re thankful for successes enjoyed

We’re thankful for resources employed

in the service of others, in service of peace,

for in serving others our joys increase.

Let’s be thankful at this meeting for food and friends,

for hearts to serve and helpful hands.

Spring’s promise whispered,
a twilight song warming me.
Buds broke joyfully
from bare, dead, winter branches;
Now they wear a snow blanket.
