I dreamt of you

for eleven thousand

seven hundred

and ten nights.

You spoke in

waking dreams.

You whispered

in the blackness,

called across the miles:

Hold on.

I’m here for you.

Stay.

You have commitments.

But after

eleven thousand

seven hundred

and ten nights

you called

to tell me

those words did not

apply to you.

Hold on.

I’m here for you.

Stay.

You have commitments!

I said to you,

but it was too late by then.

I dreamt of you

for eleven thousand

seven hundred

and ten nights,

until I learnt that

you weren’t really there

at all.

She saw it in his eyes

and

tilted her head modestly

hiding her smile

while he tried desperately to

catch her attention.

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

extended her left hand

to accept the ring,

the sign of promise.

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

handed back the ring

letting him go

no regrets.

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

welcomed him beside her,

his fears conquered,

stood at the altar,

moved into the future.

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

held the babies close

while he gushed

about the woman he admired

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

let him grieve the loss

as they left behind

wishful thinking

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

embraced their passion

commitment

longevity.

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

each time he was broken

she brought out the glue

to piece him back together

held him tightly

.

She saw it in his eyes

and

let him be,

let all enfold,

and

it was

fine.

A little magnetic poetry, on the fridge, of course!    Several sets represented.  The photo is not as tightly focused as I’d like.  Sorry about that.

I believe in true love, you know?  I don’t believe that everybody gets to keep their eyes or not get sick or whatever, but everybody should have true love, and it should last at least as long as your life does.

~John Green The Fault in our Stars p. 75

I’m completely with John on this one.   I know that most people don’t have that experience, but should is an optimistic word.  Loyalty to someone is a beautiful thing.  It’s powerful when it’s reciprocated.

The togetherness

stretched between

man-cave and girl-zone,

in dutiful words

and sharing kisses on the stairs.

The silences

listen for the echoes

of footfalls

and wonder

what togetherness

means.

He is

-potentially-

all he

is.

.

She is

-essentially-

all she

is.

.

They are

-exponentially-

all they

are.

You’re simmering

on a low boil,

bubbles sitting on the

bottom of the pan,

popping to the surface

in occasional bursts

of aggravation.

I don’t know

whether to turn

up the heat,

or turn you off.

She held out

her insecurities

cupped in her hands

and asked him

for reassurance,

but he just looked down

his nose at her

silent

.

He had no

kind word

to give,

no kind heart.

.

And so she stood

face upturned in

silent misery

and held tight to

the gift

of isolation.

I wish upon you

like a star.

I find you–

a hot rock cooling

in the field, enveloped in

tendrils of mist.

I turn and tumble

you in my mind

Transform you into

a perfect talisman,

hold you in my pocket

roll you in my palm-

a star to wish upon

for stars are only

burning rocks,

and we are all

stardust.

I  hang you

in the heavens

to glow.

I wish upon

the wonder

that is you.

.

You are a solid trunk,

knarled, mossy, tall

You look up

hearing Vivaldi

through the Rockies,

as I bud yellow green,

blossom pink,

blow petals on the breeze,

absorb the sun,

grow rich green,

dance in summer storms,

glow molten gold

firey orange and flaming blood,

throw all my soul

into the sky

and when pretention

falls away,

I rest,

naked,

upon you

and renew.
