I’m checking today

Again.

I checked yesterday

And the day before

And the day before that.

Each time,

I catch my breath,

before I click the key.

Open.

Enter.

Hopeful.

So far,

No news.

But

I’ll keep checking,

Until I

Know.

.

Oh!

poem-trying September 10, 2017

That light in your eye

gives me hope.  The glint of

possibility twinkles there.

I am excited by the symphony

you’re embracing as you

attempt novelty.

Just when I think there’s been a change

Just when I think the brain’s been rearranged

Just when I think obstacles have been constrained

There’s a smash, crashing return to the old

The opening petals refuse to unfold

The rebirthing story will not be told

Just when I imagine, my hope’s short-changed.

Reality is bitterly cold.

My expectations are really what’s strange.

Your wits are dull

Your eyes are glazed

Your ambitions are low

You are dull

There is nowhere

for you to go.

It is lonely

Seeing ghosts of wagging tails

Dancing feet and twinkling eyes.

To remember joy made physical

Only because of my existence.

It is lonely

To catch the movements

From the corners of my eyes

Of furry bodies no longer present.

Grief is a hard, hard, hard burden.

But you,

Are lighter without the responsibility

Lighter with the freedom

Lighter  from the consequences.

Lighter with the isolation

That is not loneliness to you.

But oh,

It is to me,

And my heavy heart struggles

With this burden of grief.

Knowing you.  Knowing me.

Knowing the sacrifice you make

To bring some relief from grief,

To bring me a piece of joy again,

Wagging on the tip

of a tiny tail.

The year is circling.

The light returns again.

Minute by minute

it’s a new dawn.

Loss is behind us

What’s coming is new,

so welcome beginnings

and good things for you.

Small voice calling;

creatures crawling.

Hopes are falling.

She’s left bawling,

Must stop lolling

and start hauling.

Under your skin

you’re kindling dreams.

Letting just enough

hope gleam through the ash.

Your head says,

“You can’t.

It won’t be,”

But the kindling dreams

wonder,

“Why

not

me?”

Today

Your Snow White beauty

Is cut with a sharp edge of

Street smarts.

You’ve seen

Too much.

Tomorrow

Will the visions

Scar your face with darkness,

Cigarette creases

And add black anger to your eyes,

Aging you with

Exponential bitterness?

Or will your words

Poured out upon a page

Erase the stresses

And sculpt your beauty

Into timelessness?

Something in the air

is singing my name.

.

I can not tell if it

is a melody from yesterday.

.

I hope such harmony

is from tomorrow.
