This joint needs stretching.

Lean into the pain,

just a little push.

Hold there,

on the edge of the agony.

Relax back.

Lean again; push

just

a little

further.

Stretch the joint;

flexibility is necessary,

when you may need to run,

eventually.

poem- new to you December 31, 2014

Whatever is tied up in this gift

unwrap it joyfully.

Pull out difficulty, challenge, and struggle;

laugh at the lessons you’re learning.

Celebrate what has been and what will be

Celebrate what is now and what will be

Celebrate you.

Celebrate me.

Celebrate

what

will

be.

Each day is a gift

New for you to

Celebrate.

poem- where August 13, 2014

When you went away

full of dreams and plans

we waved your plane off

and wondered how reality

could possibly live up to

your unreasonable expectations.

We let you go to find your way

and when nothing is

what you thought it’d be

We have faith that

you will figure out

the reason,

and create reasonable

reality

for yourself.

We grow

to fill the space we have.

Over time, each room fills

with things that we could live without

but gather like memories.

If the deadline is far away

we stretch to fill the time,

break the project into small parts

or forget about it until the final moments

We should expand

into our opportunities

while we have time and space

to grow.

I saw the sun

dazzling across the water

glinting off your smile

frying through my brain

a laser lighting love.

I saw the cloud

covering across the moon

shadowing the light

wearing darkness like futility

frustration burning.

I see the sun

laughing at the cloud

shimmering through mist

overcoming all

Seeing is believing.

poem-tending roses March 3, 2014

I should have

warned you about our bud.

She’s thorny

but she’s precious.

Touch her brusquely

and you’ll bleed from flesh

torn by her thorns.

They are sharp, but they protect

a precious bud.

Some day, if we tend her well

she will blossom into a glorious rose,

for now she is a thorny stalk

with a tentative bud,

doubtful of blooming.

She will need to be coaxed,

but someday, her unique beauty

will amaze you.

She will show the world

talent, insight, and vision.

She’ll be a complexity of

colour, scent, tenacity.

For now, she is a thorny stalk,

but we have faith

the guarded bud

will bloom

No

Why imagine that?

You can’t do that!

That’s not for the likes of you.

No

That’s all they ever said.

I had to stay in this rut

and be what they had settled for

But

my wishes had wings

My dreams dredged deeper

and where I am

is a place of possibility

too great for them to see

Michaelangelo could look

into a rock and see the face of angels

like me

consideration vs acceptance February 24, 2012

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

~Aristotle

.

I fully agree with this statement.  The ‘what if’ that allows a person to look at the unknown, the different or the strange is a powerful tool for knowledge.  Seeking to understand another perspective only strengthens your own wisdom.  Your own perspective may be different, but by understanding the cultural, historical, or experiential background behind the point of view of someone else, you grow.   You don’t have to believe the same thing.  You don’t have to accept the conclusions made by others.  However, considering other perspectives helps you to understand your own beliefs and values.  Learning about yourself is valuable.  Learning is a good thing.
