Today I was challenged to have a poem about The Scientific Method in slam style on my blog by 10 p.m.  Challenge complete!

In case you’ve forgotten the components…

Scientific method-

  • Recognize problem
  • Define problem
  • formulate hypothesis
  • collect data
  • analyze data
  • confirm or disconfirm hypothesis

THE POEM:

Recognize the problem

form definition of the complication

formulation, computation,

I hypothesize;

I strategize.

All the data I analyze

analyze

analyze.

I synthesize the truth of this

have I confirmed my hypothesis?

If not, then I begin again

Being careful of instability,

endeavour to control variabilities

Recognition of the definition

controlling the conditions

again I must hypothesize

strategize, and analyze.

Circles spin, cycle again, once more begin!

The method of the scientists

consists always of the hypothesis,

that’s altered, trimmed, and twisted,

Endless scientific fight to determine

which truths are right!

poem- string

I’m stringing together words

connecting us like beads

winding threads

capturing beauty that flashes in the light

I’m stringing us tightly together

knotting now so we can

recreate this moment

when we fear we are unravelling.

The clippers heat up quickly

So I shave the dog one body part at a time:

one leg,

two legs,

three legs,

four legs,

one foot,

two feet,

three feet,

four feet,

back,

belly,

tail,

face.

Hot dog ready for summer relief.

It takes longer than a girl

getting ready for a hot date.

image of this place

image of these faces

image of our laughter

after time passes

memories encased in this

In a minute

we can rage

strife chagrin

strife mend

In a minute

all can change

life begin

life end.

In a minute

In a second

Breath

Gone.

Water

flows downhill

finds its level

makes its way

adapts.

Water

boils over

floods plains

rises to the sky

adapts.

Water

nurtures

pours

roars

adapts.

Water

drips

drops

adapts.

I

am

water.

Tonight,

we’ll laugh until tears streak our cheeks

and remember all those moments

that made this a special place.

But beneath the laughter

will be the melancholy knowing

that with these leavings

we are left to try to rebuild something new.

I suppose we’ll be okay,

but I can’t help but wish you’d stay.

.

.

.

(End of the school year.  Staff leaves.  New staff arrives.  Some years it’s just so fabulously synergistic that it is particularly depressing to see the end).

Summer bakes us all

we glisten, basted,

glossy, full of scent

on the beach coconut

on the track athletic musk.

The dog lies panting

collapsed in a cool for now spot

We long for air conditioning

and winter ice.

He’s in the man cave

staring at the tube

occasionally laughing

When he emerges

he ignores her as she does

her thing in

her space.

He’ll walk past and head to bed

without a word,

and she’ll watch him in the hall

wondering whether

everyone feels lonely.
