Family and friends

gather for funeral to

tell stories:

laughter

tears

admiration

appreciation.

I hope she knew

she touched this many.

that they’d have to

bring in extra chairs,

though she was a newcomer

to this community.

When cancer is found,

why not call everyone

to celebrate the life

while the body is there to hear?

Why not send her off for chemo

with these stories of love,

respect, and support?

Why wait to gather

when she’s not here

to receive the blessing?

Memorial today, packed house to celebrate Auntie Linda.  I just kept wishing she’d been here to know how many lives she’d touched.

I was reminded of a send off my friend had for her husband when he was heading south for radiation, bone marrow transplant, etc.  Relatives came from afar, friends packed the building.  We sang, we told stories, we laughed, we sent him off with blessings for his young family, knowing in his heart how he’d inspired people.  When he passed away a few months later, we gathered  all again with sadder hearts, but that time together lifting him up has stayed with me as a very precious occasion to support a young family in a time of tragedy.

poem-vicarious pleasure July 24, 2014

It’s been a journey of celebrations

seeing dreams unfolding

in flirtatious  Twitter assignations,

watching joy unrolling

during this cinematic gestation.

And now, with keen anticipation

all around the Earth

One can feel the vibrations

from fans awaiting this birth:

an incarnation of literary creation.

Outlander comes to television!  Premieres are being aired this weekend.  It has been fabulous following along with author Diana Gabaldon as she has shared the fun from the moment the papers were signed and it was official that Ron Moore was turning her books series into an epic television series.  We fans were part of the excitement as each character was cast, and I particularly enjoyed watching the delight sparkle in Diana’s eyes as she told me about being on set when she had her cameo!

My joy is vicarious, but it is a very genuine and thorough joy.  It is just SO GREAT to experience the adventure of favourite books being transformed for a new media!

In case you don’t know, Outlander is airing in the US on Starz, in Canada on Showcase, and in Australia on Soho.  In Canada, we have to wait until August 24th.  It’s going to be painful as the American fans have 2 weeks ahead of us!

I hear your distant rumblings.

Your grumblings do not impress.

I can shut the windows

and let your storm pass by.

Too much to do

Too little time

Do you feel

like this, too?

Something in the air

is singing my name.

.

I can not tell if it

is a melody from yesterday.

.

I hope such harmony

is from tomorrow.

Ghostly calls across the lake

loons declaiming poetry

its harmonic tones drowned

by strident laughter

in the cabin next door

from a less musical loon.

On the right of the photo, the two small white dots on the water are the loons.

Poem- What I learned

What I learned about you:

  • you did not hang the stars
  • you did not shave the moon
  • you did not fuel the sun
  • you make me super nova
  • you make me new each months
  • you make me shine

What I learned about us:

  • we’re celestial
  • we’re changing
  • we’re burning

I remember you: new

baby powder smell

tiny ears like velvet

cries like a lamb

and here is your

baby daughter

in my arms.

poem- hollows

I wait

in the hollow place

for you

You happily celebrate

the concavities

but appreciate

the complexities

of the convexities.

In hollow places

grace erases traces

of solemnity and

embraces totality,

while

I wait

for you.
