Rustling in the walls

“There’s a party going on around here”

Scurrying feet

Confidence in numbers

Why hide anymore?

Rodent rave!

Objects become vermin cesspools

reaking sewers of

spoiled food.

Pestilential festival!

Families unveiled:

babies, cousins, great-grandparents

intergenerational bliss.

There have been too many creature comforts.

Exterminator is not as successful

as one would hope.

Carpets ripped up

Insulation pulled out

Clean. Clean. Clean

Bleach billows in the mist.

Can anyone lend a cat?

.

.

(Helping a relative clean up after an infestation.  Huge, very expensive, disgusting job!)

poem- computer woes November 24, 2017

You ask me for my email address

When given, much to my distress

You claim it’s already registered.

Why yes!  I tell machine, that’s me, for sure!

You ask me for  user name and password

But when I type them, you claim I’m invalid.

Oh, you passive aggressive machine,

You’re not acting like part of this team!

Inside the circuits of your brain

you’re plotting how to cause me pain.

I can hear your fan blade snicker,

as you plot to raise blood pressure.

Oh computer, use your power for good,

and work like the techies claim you should!

.

.

(Another day, another frustrating encounter with technology!)

That sunny day

beguiled.

Promises of warmth.

Such trust to place

in rays,

those sparkling

reflections on the snow.

Liars.

Every

one.

“No” is not always

a negative thing.

.

Sometimes it is

a sweet relief.

.

Sometimes “yes”

brings too much to do,

too much responsibility

too much accountability.

.

Sometimes “no”

breathes a melancholy sigh.

Thankfulness.

This is not the time.

I’m checking today

Again.

I checked yesterday

And the day before

And the day before that.

Each time,

I catch my breath,

before I click the key.

Open.

Enter.

Hopeful.

So far,

No news.

But

I’ll keep checking,

Until I

Know.

.

Oh!

laughing eyes

begin to smoulder,

leaning in

gentle touch,

lips spark

in the darkness

electricity

between us

How lucky I am

in you.

How blessed I am

to know you.

How grateful I am

for you.

Three steps ahead

he strides forward,

in a rush,

as usual,

to get nowhere,

quickly.

He trails her behind him,

a fuming

sputter

of irritation,

gathering pressure,

ready to explode.

You look familiar,

I said.

Where do I know you from?

We listed things we do,

things we did,

places we go,

people we know.

Nothing in common.

It was weeks later,

I saw you through the crowd,

and realized I’d seen you in my mirror

forty years ago.

…in my easy button.

.

Confident red circle

sits

in its isolation

on the desk

proclaims,

“That was easy!”

.

We hear the outbursts

amused from a distance,

that it appreciates

ataraxia.

.

Our brains may ache

with the effort

of learning,

.

but that red button

assures us

It wasn’t difficult

at all.
