Here is the place,

soft amber light

warm hands

cool breeze.

Here is the circle,

feel the connection

crackling completeness

arms tight,

hearts warm.

Here is love,

wrapped around you,

holding you up,

sending you strength.

Here is peace.

Here is hope.

Here is now.

.

.

For Londa.

Sometimes

there is no why

there simply is.

Your body

came into the world

like this.

The cancer in your family line.

The inclination to heart disease.

That birth defect.

Desperate fear

brings joy to snake oil salesmen

who’ll tell you whatever you need to hear.

Fake healers with degrees from schools of blarney.

Double blind research shows it’s no different that a placebo.

You don’t need an expensive sugar pill;

Just accept the hope

without the hype.

Believe you will get better,

and your body will believe you,

without sharing fake cures that might kill you,

without wasted dollars in fake cures flushed

away, and if your body doesn’t accept cure,

live today.

Swirling tides roar

Air rumbles and crackles

Bitterness rises

A stomach bent on anarchy.

Sickness weighs heavy

body aches as if it is encased in cement

limbs do not want to move,

throat scratches,

eyes droop,

incision throbs,

skin shivers.

Every part of me weighed down

and longing to fall into sleep.

.

.

.

I’m definitely coming down with something!  Yesterday I was falling asleep at 8 p.m.  Tonight it wasn’t even 6 p.m.  Good night!

The dog pulls you down the street.

Your eyes are hazy,

Your hair is wild.

Your beard’s unkempt.

Your steps thud awkwardly like you’ve forgotten how to walk.

If the outside reflects the inside,

you definitely need some time

to regain your health again.

He relies on the strength

of her heart strings.

She winds them around him

to hold him together

when he might rattle apart

in the shaking, quaking  times.

When she is weak and broken,

when she can not stretch her arms,

wide enough

to wrap heart strings around him,

he trembles and crumbles

apart.

When she is weak and broken,

he does not consider

that he could pretend

to be strong.

He could hold her heart strings,

and spin into her.

Once upon a time

when someone was laid up

visitors would send cards

friends would deliver flowers

your buddies brought balloons

until the sick room was transformed

into a jolly place, papered in good wishes.

Now,

the wishes are all virtual

and the distraction is digital.

If only the pain was, too.
