Your morning eyes
still full of night
fall on me
soft as sunrise.
“A man like Matthew never frees himself of the shadows completely, but perhaps it is necessary to embrace the darkness in order to love him.”
~Deb Harkness in Shadow of Night

He thinks that he is so hard to love
he polishes his prickles
scours his scowls
brushes those glowering brows
as if this gruff front will keep his heart whole,
and impervious to the heat of a warm embrace.
But she wears fireproof gloves,
confronts him with frankness,
and forces him to face his fears.
She wraps his arms around her and
shows him his image in the mirror of her love.
The mantle piece is gathering dust,
as are other ledges,too
The strings are dusty on the harp
the soundboard’s dusty, true.
The floors could use a washing.
Windows want a spotless view,
But what I lack in house keeping
I make up in love for you.

(Someone is vacuuming and washing floors before we leave for Christmas dinner, causing stress to poodles. Hint: it isn’t me).
When she reached
and found
That was all
there was.
When she stretched
and discovered
That was all
she was
When she trusted
and loved
That was all
you were
I heard you sent it
and it makes me smile
to know my mail box
will receive a gift
from the past.
When it arrives
I will float back in time,
swim in memories for a while,
then break the surface
to be thankful
for now.
I only have to say
Here’s a problem,
can you solve it?
And next time I turn around
You have illuminated
my world.
.
She was wrapped up in herself
and he had a bad rap
But they were enraptured
and joys they unwrapped.

,
Some wordplay this afternoon, just for you!
Quiet crept
through rustling leaves,
soft snowfall.
Quiet crept
through murmurs heard
under our hearts.
Quiet crept
through gentle touches
sweet sighs.
Quiet crept
through me
to you.
There is security,
profoundly deep,
knowing that whatever
needs to be done
will be done,
without me having to ask.
.
There is gratitude,,
profoundly deep,
knowing that whatever
I need
will be met,
without argument.
.
There is peace,
profoundly deep,
knowing that whatever
happens, I can trust you,
to be there.
