The dress is tight
and youthful.
You beam, when people say
“You look great!”
But from a distance
they observe
the bulges from
the botched cosmetic surgery,
and the fake parts glued here and there.
They sigh how sad it is
that you feel you need to try so hard
to be a plastic doll
instead of you.
True beauty is not
about artificial expectations
it’s about being confident
as you are
and celebrating
that your uniqueness
is beautiful.
I couldn’t agree more, Shawn.
Beautiful.
Thanks
Amen! The wisdom that comes with age, silver hair, sagging breasts…the love of our true selves…Priceless.
Yup.
this has so much truth to it, i love it
Thanks
“To thyself be true.”
Precisely.
So uplifting – love it.
Thanks
Precisely! Cosmetic surgery is nonsense!
Indeed! True beauty comes from within. 🙂
lov this! We gotta find strength to age gracefully.
Awesome!
exercise & a good diet. the best surgery there is. 🙂
o…also: marvelous poy-m. 🙂
That was a big “like” for this poem’s message. Nice to read such ideas, given that we live in an age of narcissism.
Indeed. What does this say to one’s daughters? Photoshop your body, cut and paste, blur tool…
Yes indeed. True beauty indeed comes from within, a confidence of oneself.
Thanks so much for following my blog.. I do Love this piece on plastic surgery.. People need to have more confidence in their body build-up…
Isn’t it depressing? Thanks for stopping by!
You are welcome…
[…] poem- what are you saying?. […]
The popular boy in high school, that handsome and tall sports star, is now a round, bald blob on the couch watching life pass him by. The popular girl who lived for the looks has nothing else to offer when the wrinkles start forming and gravity sags her body. As the years pass, I can see where being left with the option of developing a personality, a talent, and a skill was the greater gift. 🙂
Absolutely. I have been stunned seeing former beauty queens whose suntanning has left them leathery prunes. I don’t think there’s anything worse than “peeking in high school.” There is so much life beyond those few years!
That is so true Shawn…very well said. Thanks for following my blog @ L.T. Garvin.
My pleasure.
