No
Why imagine that?
You can’t do that!
That’s not for the likes of you.
No
That’s all they ever said.
I had to stay in this rut
and be what they had settled for
But
my wishes had wings
My dreams dredged deeper
and where I am
is a place of possibility
too great for them to see
Michaelangelo could look
into a rock and see the face of angels
like me

Wow, really strong poem with a killer ending. I really liked it.
Thank you!
Awww that is so darn beautiful:) makes me smile that you too can see the angels.
Glad you like it
Your poems always make me smile! 🙂 absolutely love this one.
I like making smiles! Thanks Fasiha!
Very cool, I love it! I agree, great ending.
Thank you.
I totally get this. Only this year did I start writing poetry and believe I could do it. I am still insecure about my poetry (as opposed to my nonfiction) but getting more and more confident
It’s only been 6 mos or so that I’ve added “poet” to my descriptor on blog and business cards, and yet I’ve been writing poetry since I was a kid. We have to embrace our destinies, eh? Keep writing, Jen!
An aesthetic poem whose aspirational tidings lead to one of the most perfect denouements that I have ever read.
Wow. Thanks.
You are inspiring and enthusiastic! Glad I found you amongst the many blogs and thanks for visiting my blog. Hope to see you back soon and have an awesome weekend.
My pleasure! Thanks for coming by!
I love poems that inspire images. I really love this one!
Thanks, I’m glad!
I love it!
I love it!
Doubly so, apparently! Thank you. 😉
This is beautiful! I particularly like the line, “I had to stay in this rut and be what they had settled for.” I think that’s brilliant, and perhaps I relate to it just a bit! This poem is elevating, Shawn.
I glad you liked it.
