What I learned about you:
- you did not hang the stars
- you did not shave the moon
- you did not fuel the sun
- you make me super nova
- you make me new each months
- you make me shine
What I learned about us:
- we’re celestial
- we’re changing
- we’re burning
I wish upon you
like a star.
I find you–
a hot rock cooling
in the field, enveloped in
tendrils of mist.
I turn and tumble
you in my mind
Transform you into
a perfect talisman,
hold you in my pocket
roll you in my palm-
a star to wish upon
for stars are only
burning rocks,
and we are all
stardust.
I hang you
in the heavens
to glow.
I wish upon
the wonder
that is you.
.
My sky
is lit with blue
sparkling with the frost
that glistens on the trees.
Your sky
is a vast midnight
glowing with the snow
that reflects a sunless sky.
Our sky
is knit with stars
sparkling in the coolness
that connects our continents.

I’m missing my host families in Finland today, and thinking of the Finnish winter skies that are bright despite the absence of the sun as the snow reflects light so even in the dark, the world glows with light. There is a metaphor here for life!
