poem- echoes October 29, 2013

I bought

an adorable black hat

at Goorin Bros.

Tilted the burgundy brim

to the perfect angle

Grabbed my new

wooly black ruana,

draped it around my shoulders

with a flourish, loving the fall

of the ruffled edges,

the weight, the warmth.

I felt my creativity

shouting through the garb,

felt Bohemian, wild, and artistic.

Then I grinned in the mirror

and saw the echo of my

great-grandmother’s

Salvation Army cape and bonnet.

We never get too far away

from home.

Fabulous! I could picture the hat, the ruana, and the whole picture right down to the Salvation Army cape and bonnet. Loved, loved, loved. Your poem brought back memories of my grandmother.

What a good, meaty read. I liked the substance of it, and the flow of the words. Nice!

  5. I need to get me some wild Bohemian togs…a hat and a wrap…maybe some long skirts and practical boots…
(Very nice imagery here, especially the mirror/echo thing.)

  6. I have been browsing your poems and having a good time doing it! Can’t choose a favorite, but I especially like the insight of this one. Thank you for visiting and following my blog today….I’ll be back!
