She remembers long ago

when she’d catch his glances like butterflies,

flitting, fleeting, flickering glimpses,

darting from above a smile

of surreptitious wistfulness.

She’d swallow his longing

so the fluttering was within her,

and gaze back,

captivated, until they

trembled together

in the net.

Ah, such a beautiful poem, Shawn…the use of alliteration certainly adds great flow to this piece and I love the simile and analogy…

    • Thank you.
I think it’s now one of my favourites. 🙂
(and think, it didn’t exist 3 hours hours ago. Something profound, like the life of a butterfly).

You are welcome…that’s how it is, sometimes…we write something ans say to ourselves “Wow, I just wrote that and I love it” …. yes, there is something profound in the brief waft of a butterfly’s life….

  4. The verse is shaped like a butterfly wing. Tremble on.

  5. Really, really nice. Both what it says – and how you say it. Love the ending. 8^)

Simply beautiful and as delicate as a butterfly.

Best love poem in a long time. Witty and poignant without sounding corny and overly sentimental. Oh people have whipped this discipline within an inch of its frail existence. So many lovers, so very few poets….

  8. This is my favourite poem so far, Shawn 🙂
