You’re right there

but you’re gone.

Imagining the future without you

takes magic out of the world

silences our laughter

slices out our hearts.

You’re right here,

but you’re gone.

Lost to us

at great cost to us

There isn’t enough chocolate* in the world

to assuage this agony, unrelenting.

You’re right here,

but our story is ending.

.

.

.

My colleagues and I are grieving the loss of a great leader.  We will go on with the new again, of course.  But sometimes, before you pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and pull it together, you need to wallow for a while in the emotions you’re feeling.  Loss is painful.  Change is scary.  We’ll get through it, but accepting the grief is healthy, too.

*some people may wish to substitute a beverage, shoes, or other favoured ‘pick me up.’

Not always can we let it go
although , it is already gone
    it lingers on..and on..and on
like a trail of thoughts ..not right nor wrong

I was drawn to your poem. Yes, I agree, when in grief, writing your heart, or “wallow for awhile” helps to move the pain to pen. I am sorry to read of your loss. denise

Having endured true grief I know it takes time to heal, I am still waiting. My deepest sympathy Shawn.

So sorry for your loss, I think everyone has their own way of dealing with grief but yours is the best.

  10. “When it comes to grief, the normal rules of exchange do not apply. Because grief transcends value. A man would give entire nations to lift grief off his heart and yet, you cannot buy anything with grief, because grief is worthless.” — Cormac McCarthy

Beautiful. And heartbreaking. And perfectly describes how my grandma still feels here, but I can’t just pick up the phone and call. Or ask for another hug. But the heart remembers, even as you wallow through your poetry.

I love how simply profound this is.

I’m sorry for your loss. *hug*
