The
house
is empty
except for memories
It’s really too much effort
setting up that Christmas tree.
The young folks all use email
so there weren’t many cards received
The avenue is packed with snow
that’s falling unrelieved
They won’t risk driving anywhere
on that they are agreed.
Celebrations are in the past
as memories are retrieved
That’s the magic of the season,
and the truth of
Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas to those who are alone, working, or happily avoiding celebrations.
PS. The shape was supposed to be a Christmas tree, but I’m thinking it looks more like an elf silhouette. What’s your take?
The Arizona ground is bare and three empty-nesters sit in a living room, and enjoy the fire anyway Merry Christmas, Shawn and Mr.
I am enjoying the TV fire and the electric fireplace. TWO fires in the room! 🙂
Enjoy your evening.
I’m baking shortbread at the moment.
May this holiday season sparkle and shine. May all your wishes and dreams come true and may you feel this happiness all year round.
Thanks
Merry Christmas Shawn!! Here is my favorite Christmas song! Santa Baby! “Original Song 1953” Eartha Kitt! Cat Woman!! The Sexy Chanteuse!
About 4 years ago I was teaching at a high school where a senior math teacher sang this to the principal at the ‘last day before the holidays assembly’ aka ‘talent show.’ It was very steamy, much to the amusement (shock?) of the students. 🙂
Looks like the trees I used to cut for Christmas 🙂 Alone but not lonely, that may be the key. No tree here but a few scattered presents. More commercial pressure than tradition I guess. But love for my only daughter surpass any traditions and looking at her reminds me about the true meaning of the season. Nothing else matters 🙂 Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas, Hector.

Thanks for coming by, David!
I was ill for most of last week so have just found your enchanting poem! You are a lady with a wonderful heart who is a talented poet.. As much as I enjoy creating new Christmas memories with my adult children my heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones this time of year who are alone but you wrote about it so much better than I can.
Welcome back. I’m sorry to hear you were feeling poorly. I hope you’re on the mend!
