Claws in the hall,
a staccato jack hammer,
burrow into my brain.
The A/C unit
roars and reverberates
in my skull.
Dull morning light
pierces through my eyelids
burning like a laser.
A storm roils
in my stomach washing up waves of
star studded agony.
Heat washes over, steam rises.
A freezing blizzard follows.
Desperately I seek
the peaceful
oblivion of sleep.

(Not having a good day!)

Those are so brutal. I don’t even know how you posted. I hope it lets up soon.
I’ve woken up and the head, while clogged, is not clanging. I desperately need to get some nutrition back into my belly, and get some fluids back, so I’m nibbling and sipping. I suspect when the last 1/4 of toast is done, I’ll be back in bed.
Take care my friend, I’ll be thinking of you. I dread when they come as certain things are inevitable with them. I hope you can sleep and it subsides.
Through the worst now, but exhausted and aching.
I had minor migraine years ago. Doctor gave me drugs. I went to the internet. It told me one quart of cranberry juice the first three days and than two glasses daily. I did it and I don;’t have them. The cranberry juice is the polite cleaner for the body. I do the rosemary tea. Good to relax the mind and body. I hope you are feeling better.
Thanks John.
I like cranberry juice.
My wife uses the rosemary tea for our daughters period and being preg. Does wonders for the woman body. Helped the blood flow.
Interesting.
The Native American cure can work. I use them myself. Stress and bad diet can make the body function badly. Need a natural cleaning.
Migraines are hell on earth. Sending you thoughts of healing quickly.
Thanks
Hope your feeling better SOON!
Getting there.
take care

migraines … ahhh !!!
Indeed.
Hope you recover quickly!
Thanks.
Great poem, but I’m sorry about the inspiration for it. Have you figured out what causes your migraines? Often, it’s a food allergy/sensitivity, like gluten. This article might help: http://drhyman.com/blog/2010/05/18/how-to-end-migraines/#close
I suspect hormones, myself. I eat very little bread.
Beth! Your message was empty!
Could this be a profound metaphor for the void I sought amid my agony?
Apt.
😉
I didn’t plan it that way, but…ok let’s go with that. LOL! Hope you feel better soon. Can I send you a poem I wrote on Twitter? Similar topic.
Do!
Deep, deep in a cold
silence without any sound,
not a shiver of light
where nothing can be found,
reaching up through the seams
losing touch within memories
and dreams.
Ah. Sounds like a paradise in the midst of a migraine attack!
You suffered almost all the features of migraine. Hope these attacks do not recur too frequently. Rest more, for stress is a contributing factor.
I don’t feel very stressed. They blow in a couple of times a year. I suspect hormone shifts are the heart of the latest round.
I don’t know these personally, but I surely know headaches. If those can be debilitating, what you go through must be awful. Best. And thank you for being so lucid during the killers.
I wasn’t very lucid in the heart of it, I can assure you. I wouldn’t have been able to look at a screen, or type. However, in the midst my agony I was thinking, “What do those dog nails sound like” etc, formulating the poem! (That’s dedication!) 😉
I am still out of sorts, but my head feels much clearer. Thanks for the sympathy.
Knock on wood I haven’t had one in years. And I know how it makes you feel, like you’re dying.
lol I just responded to someone on my FB with “I have resurrected. Hallelujah” It feels that way!
UGH – I know that feeling all to well.
Hope you feel better soon.
Migraines really suck!
Thanks, RoSy!
Migraines are incredibly painful. I have had my share of them and they hurt and pound to the point that I just can’t function. I hope you recover soon. You’re terrific at describing the awful pain of it.
Thanks Becky. I wish I didn’t have first hand experience to draw on!
I hope you feel better soon! Glad to say I don’t have migraines but my cousin does and I see how they knock her down. I don’t wish that on anyone!
I don’t get them often, but when they hit, the whole world shrinks into a swirling mass of agony inside my head. Well. You can read how it was! I have a friend who gets them every month and they knock her out for a couple of days. She used to go in to teach even in pain. Can you imagine teaching drama with a migraine? Eek.
I didn’t even read the title, and I was asking myself, “Gosh! Does she have a migraine?” I’m sending you healing thoughts from across the continent–heal, be well, take care of yourself! Have you tried an eye pillow? I make organic flax seed and lavender eye pillows, and I have found them to be incredibly helpful for headaches and muscle tension. How about some restorative yoga? I hope you feel better soon!
OOh. I have a lavender pillowy thing.
I’m feeling much better, though definitely only about 50%.
You have my sympathy Sweetie. I hope sleep helped it clear.
xxx Massive Hugs xxx
Still not 100% Hopefully I’ll be back to myself Monday morning.
I get them too, so this really hits home for me. I feel your pain!
My condolences… 😉
Hope you’re feeling better….
Getting there.
You have done a fantastic job of putting into words the agony of a migraine so that those of us who have been fortunate enough NOT to have experienced them can glean some idea of what migraine sufferers experience. The words became so real I started getting a headache too! Now I have an idea of what my then-teenage daughter suffered and why she bought a baby bottle, had me fill it with warm cocoa and bring it to her in her darkened bedroom whenever she felt a migraine coming on. Somehow the warm, comforting sucking got her to sleep and through the worst of the headache. As I learned to say in Germany, “Gute Besserung!”
Thanks. They really are horrible.
I have a friend with a spinal fluid issue who spent months in this agony while waiting for surgery (pressure of fluid squeezing the brain). I can’t imagine, though the pain behind her eyes made it a miracle she could even get out of the house.
I like the writing, not what gave rise to it!
lol Thanks
I feel your pain as my migraines, when bad, keep me in bed as well.
Thank you. They are horrible, that’s for sure!
