Gossamer strings

weaving between

emptiness,

the lace

slides

beneath needles

as I stitch air

into beauty.

Hi,am Reeta and i really like your work.I have a poetic blog,so i just want to ask,how can i make my poetry better

    • Hi Reeta,
I’ve read some of your poems. I feel your heart in them.
My advice: Read lots of great poets. Write lots of poetry. Look around you. See. Experiment. Look for metaphors and symbols to represent your feelings rather than telling the audience straight out. Trim words. Think about sound as a poem is read aloud. Choose words that play together- assonance and consonance are powerful tools. Look more. Read more. Write more.
      All the best to you!

  8. i kept going back to the part about stitching air, it’s one of those moments where imagination stops and wonders how to interpret language. Lovely, thanks!

Shawn, you stitch air and words into beauty.

  12. Shawn, you have a wonderfully unique way of expression, compelling and challenging perspective. This is refreshing to see. Stay close to the muse Shawn…it serves and suits you well.

    • Why thank you, Don. That’s very kind of you.

      • You’re most welcome Shawn. When I see a young person like yourself with an interest in poetic verse, and especially where they demonstrate writing skills and a clear aptitude for individualistic wordcraft that is both evocative, inspired and touching heart, mind and soul I always make sure that expression is recognized and appreciated…and in this day that is not very often the case. Should writing, especially poetry, become a long-term passion for you, the personal benefit and gratification you will experience will be wonderful, perhaps even life changing. Always aspire to pen in your own unique, identifiable style of expression and you will stand out as an exception.

      • “Young person like yourself.” Aren’t you sweet.

I won my first poetry prize 41 years ago, so I think I’ve got the “long-term passion” part covered.

I appreciate your encouragement, though. πŸ˜‰
