Duck:

observe the legato ease of

geese relaxing in their Vs,

or eagles, reaching out their sides

to slice the skies,

even the tiny wren flies

from tree to tree efficiently,

but you,

you flap

over-happily

like a rattlepated,

frenzied drunk,

Duck.

My boyfriend’s name is Duckie, so I just had to send him your poem. Rather ironic topic, given your name. Enjoyed. Always appreciate your dropping by my blog.

  2. Perfectly delightful, and I’m happy the duck finally has received a poem loopily loving him.

Watching ducks is kinda like a Marx Brothers movie. Really a good observation.

I just learned the word “rattlepated.” Thanks for the poem and the education.

Awesome sounds in this poem (legato ease/relaxing into Vs)–and funny enough, the sounds create an image. 🙂 Nicely done!

This is a fun poem. I very much like your easy rhyming, not always end stopped.

Strangely enough, your last name is “Bird”….so, I found the ending interesting.

    “frenzied drunk,
    Duck.” ?
