Stepping across the street
you are in danger.
Driving to the grocery store
is more dangerous than
flying across the country.
Why then,
does leaving the bonds of earth
and taking to sky or sea
seem like braving great
danger?

I’m not afraid of flying, but I still hold my breath during those take off and landings! Off to another conference. This will be my 5th one this calendar year! I am learning about career education in BC.
Great reality check, Shawn.
Quite a journey you took me on with this one 🙂
There is a sense if security and safety that comes along with being grounded. If in a boat this is really not the case – not for me. I cannot see the bottom of the ocean – the unknown scares me.
Not our natural elements, I guess.
for a lot of us I think it’s not feeling in control…
Undoubtedly
I never thought about this, but you are totally correct Ma’am! For instance, at night, Melbourne is hailed as the murder capital of Australia, and for one of my new jobs, I spend many nights a week in Melbourne! Everyone totally deserves medals!
A very intelligent think piece Ma’am!
An excellent thought that explores the reality of our fears and hopes. Thanks, Shawn. Have a safe trip!
I was upgraded to a penthouse suite in this very swanky hotel. I’m feeling rather posh! lol
It is perception. And for me it is about having solid earth close at hand. But I can put aside the worries and let my spirit soar above the vessel I travel within.
Last night, flying in blackness, we landed quite unexpectedly. Usually I watch the ground/airport coming closer, but suddenly the wheels were on tarmack. It was a strange thing!
Control?
Indeed. Though I don’t mind someone else driving…
