♪ kind, kind, kind vibrations ♪ May 17, 2011

Here is a lovely thought from fantasy author Charles de Lint that fits with the kindness assignment my grade 7s are working on this week:

“It’s funny what a difference a positive attitude can have. When you go out of your way to be nice to people, or do something positive for those who can’t always help themselves…it comes back to you. I don’t mean you gain something personally. It’s just that the world becomes a little bit of a better place, the music becomes a little more upbeat, and how can you not gain something from that?

See, when you get down to the basics of it, everything’s just molecules vibrating. Which is what music is, what sound is, vibrations in the air. So we’re all part of that music and the worthier it is, the more voices we can add to it, the better we all are.”

~Charles de Lint in Moonlight and Vines. p. 33.

What more can I add to Mr. de Lint’s words?

(Well, I will add something eventually, but for now, let’s just absorb his brilliance).

  1. Shawn, how lovely to happen across your comment with quotes from my husband. You make me think of his song, Cherokee Girl, which has the simplest chorus ever: Hey ya, hey ya, hey ya. Charles says about this song, “I think of this as a healing song. Whenever I sing it, I think of someone who could use a little positive energy in their life and send it out to them. You can, too. The more voices we get on the “hey ya, hey ya, hey ya” response line, the more energy goes out.” So if you have a moment, check it out (scroll down a bit to see the video) and sing along. 🙂

    Cheers! – MaryAnn

Thanks MaryAnn! I think we need to bring you and Charles to the Shuswap to participate in the Roots and Blues Festival and the Shuswap Writers’ Festival. I love the philosophy I find in Charles de Lint’s books. If you search his name on my site, I frequently ponder quotes from his work here.

  2. And you have poodles! What’s not to like? 🙂 Our little guy (Johnny Cash) is poodle/Maltese, but he’s got all the smarts of the poodle. I swear he understands most of what I say…

We’ll have a convo about the festivals and get back to you. Meanwhile – thanks for buying our CDs! They’ll go out in the mail on Tuesday.

What do you think?
