Your warm breath blowing up against my back
can fill the night with peace and with gladness:
A deep abiding sense of happiness.
Your breath’s a metaphor that shows the fact
That nothing in the world is better than
Being held tightly by strong and loving arms
In an embrace that protects from all harm,
An embrace that assures, “I am your man.”
And when I curl into that firm embrace
And place my ice cold feet upon your shins
For that quick quivering gasp that makes me smile,
You pull me tight and tickle with your chin
A bristly kiss that shows there’s no denial.
I’m thankful for the gift of heavenly grace.

Congratulations on your rhyme scheme. Lovely poem.
This provides a rich image of love and grace … and of course an “awh”! Thank you for sharing!
Such a warm and peaceful moment. Great imagery as well. A wonderful piece!
stay that way and be cool.. here’s my potluck ~ http://fiveloaf.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/broken-home/
wonderful flow, wonderful moment. Thanks for visiting..( i’m in Sunday’s potluck, and I just finished a poem for the love theme & will post Sunday.)
What a lovely poem! It would make a wonderful Valentine’s gift for that special someone. And congrats on nailing the rhyme scheme! I’ve yet to tackle a sonnet-eek!
Thanks lolamouse. I have written a lot of sonnets in the last couple of years, because in my novel Grace Awakening a modern Orpheus the poet is trying to capture the love of young lady he adores… 😉 They tend to come rather easily once I start. The iambic pentameter is a bit tricky to get, but once the rhythm is in your head, it switches on when you need it!
The ice cold feet upon the shins is such a comforting thought. I love that. It feels so good to put your feet against the warmth of your loved one.
Aww 🙂 Sweet and cuddly, and a sonnet to boot!
Beautiful… Lovely… Sweet…
So sweet. I love the ice cold feet on the shins… we all do that, don’t we? 🙂
very true. a wonderful poem filled with love.

Here’s a sonnet I originally posted February 2011.

I think a closed form poem forces one to be particularly creative.
