If he were in motley and clowned for her, she’d have been less surprised.

“Why are you back? I said I need to be alone.”

“We need us,” he wept.

    A motley bunch of kittens squirmed and mewled. The raven heard them but could not reach them. He tried. Suddenly, momma, howling like a banshee launched herself. She won. He lost.
