It still surprises me
To uncover these weaknesses
You try to so hard to cover
With bombast and bomb blasts.
Acting out to hide insecurity
Inability
And the itching awareness that
You don’t measure up.
Your brain doesn’t quite hold onto
the words
the meanings
The feelings fill you up
Fear
Frustration
Anger.
Why?
WHY!
Just because
is not enough answer.
Why?
Chemistry.
Biology.
Nature? Nurture?
Better just say
“Because”
You didn’t win the lottery
And everything will be harder.
You’re pushing at the pull door.
But if you quit pushing against it
embrace your responsibility
For your own life,
Take it
I know it will go
Far more smoothly
For you.
You are so much stronger
than you believe
you are.
We just have to pull together.
Great poem!
Thanks, Magarisa!
You’re welcome, Shawn.
Nice poem 🙂 I really like your style
I appreciate you stopping by and taking time to comment! Thanks!
I know I can… But one little lottery win wouldn’t hurt… 😜
If only.
Exactly… if only!
Exactly- if you want it, earn it and know that the power to earn is within.
There’s a mindset here that is raised in some folks, and not in others. It makes such a huge difference in outcome.
Maybe the narrator tries too hard, and that is stressful.
Or not hard enough?
That strive could be stressful. Maybe a rest interval first. Thank you for replying.
What about those scenarios when any striving is so anxiety productive that absolutely nothing is attempted?
I think you are taking an either/or (neither/nor) way of thinking. Sometimes good effort is no effort at all! When strive gets nowhere, stop and rest, and try again later in a different mode. Anxiety is a motivator, but also a stress factor. Can’t live without anxiety, but it can kill. Best to play with it.
So many levels of meaning. Impressive!
This is a really uplifting poem. Thanks for sharing! The poem today on my poetry blog here on WordPress is about female anger in case you have time to look? Have a good day, Sam 🙂
My pleasure! Thanks for stopping by!
