In Outlander,
Jamie, the good husband, is always giving his wife, Claire, good advice.
He gives advice to keep her safe.
Stay here in this clearing, away from the soldiers.
Sage advice.
Stay here in the hold, away from the pirates.
Good counsel.
Claire, a modern woman with a mind of her own, makes her own decisions.
Her decisions often run counter to Jamie’s.
Invariably, Jamie has to bail her out of the trouble she’s landed in,
because she didn’t listen to him.
Today,
my good husband came home for lunch and said,
“Don’t go out there. It’s treacherous! I had to put down salt,
to melt the ice on the driveway!”
When he returned to work,
I saw the mail lady come.
I’m expecting a parcel.
There’s salt down.
What’s the worst that could happen?
I stepped on islands made by salt pellets
down our steep drive,
crossed the slippery road, and was within a meter of the mailbox
when I was splayed out on the edge of the road like a frog.
Ah! So that’s the worse that could happen.
Stay here in the house, away from the ice, he’d said
And after, my good husband didn’t even say,
“I told you so.”
Oh, if I could turn back time!
.
5 hours in Emergency because I have a spiral fracture in my ankle, and apparently orthopaedic surgeon will screw in a plate tomorrow, but at least I don’t have to pay anything for this adventure thanks to Canadian MediCare!
🙂
Outlander is written by Diana Gabaldon. It’s an amazing historical, time-travel, adventure, romance, amazing novel that you should read. My husband adores it, and tried to get everyone he knows to read it, as do I.
I love outlander! I don’t love what happened to you 😦 feel better.
A consolation is that if Diana Gabaldon managed 2 knee replacements, I can manage this. Though I think she was more mobile after her surgery! lol
oh no! I hope you recover very quickly. Hey look on the bright side, maybe the extra rest will mean more time to write! 🙂
I have Masters course work to do, in theory, but it’s hard to do anything. It’s quite painful.
Bless you. I hope it heals quickly. Take care
Thanks!
I hope it’s better soon Good Wife Shawn.
xxx Huge Hugs xxx
Me too. Thanks David
Take care. I hope it heals quickly. Hugs.
So do I, Michelle! 😦 It sucks!
Absolutely. I’ve been in a boot many times. Is it your driving foot? That would really, really suck.
Yup- and I drive a standard. 😦
It definitely sucks.
I wish I’d listened to him!
Ouch! Another life lesson learned? Wishing you swift healing!
Lesson two- I have tooooo many stairs in my house!
Oh dear, you have my sympathies!!😉
Thank you. I’m feeling a trifle woebegone today!
My daughter had the same fracture when she was young. Ice was also involved. We were skating. After skating around with her I wanted some speed, so I told her “don’t try to catch me, I’ll be back around and catch you.” Well. She tried to catch me and went down. When I came back around, it was off to Emergency and her leg looked just like yours. She healed up fine.
So far, I am not impressed! It’s so heavy, I keep bashing it into things. I suspect I was better off when I had it all taped yesterday.
Listen to the voice of tender love.
Or the voice of someone who had been outside!
So sorry to hear about your unlucky break! Wishing you speedy healing…
Thanks, Art. Surgery tomorrow. Not looking forward to it!
Whoops, that ice is soooo tricky 😉 hope all goes well, just a shame we all cannot sign your cast, am sure it would make interesting reading. Get well soon
virtual signatures could be fun- though fibreglass is hard to sign. Thanks.
Oh!! Thank u for the link so I could get the back-story. I especially love that your husband didn’t say he told you so lol. And thanks for the book recommendation. I’ma check it out.
Loved the idea of virtual cast-signing. Maybe a limerick. 😉
He is a good man. 🙂
