It’s not small.
It overwhelms.
Unending paper piles
proliferate in the night.
A day’s work
becomes a week’s.
Somewhere under there
is order,
but it will take more
excavation.

I’ve been cleaning and re-organizing my office space. Made some progress after a week, but it’s not there yet. Arg.
What task do you have that seems to expand when you’re not looking?

Hello Shawn. My goodness what an industrious creative person you are. I look forward to looking around your blog more. Thanks for stopping by LifeOfGeborgenheit. Best wishes, Rebecca
My pleasure, Rebecca. Thank you for taking the time to visit here! Welcome again!
Yard work. It never ends.
Like snow shovelling.
Thankfully mowing and shovelling are also within DH’s purview.
I’ve written about this too. I think all writers have to tackle this:

Ha ha. Thanks for sharing the link.
My gardn get one part sorted , start the next and lo and behold, back to square one again! 😄
That is why I don’t garden. The weeding never ends!
My emails, they always seem to increase the longer I’m away from my desk.

Laundry. Washing clothes is the bane of my existence. Ugh..
Thankfully, DH does the washing, but I still have to put away my own clothes (reasonably enough) and for some reason I just end up with larger and larger piles until I finally get around to dealing with it, when I can’t find anything I planned to wear any more!
Making things. While not looking the brain finds improvements in the design, or construction, and these almost always take longer to implement.
I used to tidy my office about once every year or two. Result – I could never find anything. Beforehand I knew exactly in which heap the thing was hiding.
Yup. I know the feeling, although if I’m the one who’s tidied, I generally know where the new location is. It’s when the DH in his wisdom decides to organize my world that trouble happens. It makes me VERY grumpy.
Reblogged this on Living Small in a Big World and commented:
Just in time for my decluttering time, comes a great poem from Shawn L. Bird
I’m on a decluttering campaign and your poem has hit the spot for me! Thank you for writing it!!!!
You’re welcome.
Glad to have company amid the mess!
It’s comforting to know that I’m not the only one facing the uphill challenge of controlling the clutter!
chaos theory in action!
In back of my house is a garden of weeds. Little by little, it will shrink.
🙂
Homework :p
I hear ya. I don’t usually give students homework, and I’m thankful that in my masters class, my homework is mostly just reading, and writing the odd paper.
You’re so nice… Your students must like you very much …. Only if my teachers were like you… World could be a better place
Thanks. They seem to, and they definitely laugh a lot as we work, so learning is fun most of the time. (I launched into song three times in today’s drama class. I have to keep things interesting!)
Only if other teachers knew that keeping things interesting helps students in learning things fast….
PS : I sleep almost in every of my chemstry class that women is so boring, she work like sleeping pills for me ….
Yikes.
Chemistry requires concentration!
Ya you’re right…. Well I would’ve make a chemstry joke here but all the good one argon
😉
cultural divergence with a hint of nihilistic pompous whit.
not a task very easily verbalized i might add
lol
