One by one
the hockey players walked past
assorted young men in suits
older men in team jackets
family and friends trailing behind.
The Chicago Blackhawks lost to
the Vancouver Canucks tonight.
There was no celebration in the lobby
as they filed by.
Some people were excited,
but since I don’t watch hockey,
they didn’t impress me.
They were just well dressed young men,
less well dressed older men
and dejected friends and family,
hanging out in the hotel.

Bummer – Dejected Chicago Blackhawks fan π¦
See now, YOU should have been the one sitting in the lobby outside the elevators! π You would have appreciated the skills of the assorted flesh going by.
Lol! I never pictured them wearing suits after the game. It’s in a way charming. That was a fun poem π
Even in minor hockey, the guys suit up. Our high school teams often wear shirt and tie on game day in rural high schools…
Hi Shawn, nice poem….did it conclude that they were dejected? Why?
No, just that they are ‘big celebrities’ and I have no idea who they are, because I don’t value what they do…
Okay…u mean any sport or specifically hockey>?
It’s a pretty generic sense.
I’m not an ‘athletic supporter’ (cough)
π i like the poem even more
π
just shaking my head
π
If THEY value what they do, they will improve.

As is the case in most areas of life!
