You sit
silently
staring at your lap.
Your face
reflects sorrows
you will not describe.
Silence
is your
only safe
place.

Silence your safe place..loved that line!
I pondered erasing the rest to just have that last bit be the whole poem…
(split infinitive! I break so many grammar rules!) 😉
I know it’s a bad thing but sometimes I go with the essence of the poem..I love it..thank you.:)
Essence is definitely the most important!
I think we often need to write ourselves into the poem/story, and it can be a challenge to learn when we’ve done that, and that it’s best to let that part go.
Excellent, well penned, and soulful.
Thank you.
As I sit here in my silence, I find that your poetry is not only beautiful, but speaks of truths unspoken…Thank you for sharing this with us.
Michael
My pleasure, Michael. Thank you for reading. Be well.
Very reflective. Expresses many valleys in Life. Profound. Brings a clear picture to my mind of that person for many times I’ve been the person described in the poem. A depth of sadness and sorrow so deep that No words can begin to express the inner emotions.
Well written as always.
Thanks, Deborah.
I wrote about silence today, too. I like your take very much!
Funny how that happens, isn’t it?
One day, a whole crop of poems shows up on similar themes.
Yes, it is funny. 🙂
I am wide awake in silence, yet the noisome clatter of others often puts me to sleep.
I know this paradox. There is a certain volume that when tuned out, becomes a perfect vessel for sailing to sleep.
So sad Shawn. Reminds me o a vulnerable child. xxx Massive Hugs as always xxx
Yes. It is terribly sad. There are so many damaged souls.
few words say it all!
Thank you Rekha.
Poignantly beautiful!
Thank you, Joanna
Powerful poem!
Thanks, Lisa

I love this! To me, it captures that picture of isolation and hopelessness I get from depression.
Thanks Kayla.
I just started a novel that explores depression. Not sure where it’s going, but it has been an interesting start! I had no plans to do it, but Dustin and Lydia introduced themselves and insisted I start writing about them. What could I do?
