poem- story place November 7, 2014

My words

want a place

up high, where they

can fly in on pieces of sky,

and settle into story.

My words

want a place

where  the stripe of the highway

guides them here and away.

My words

want to sit in

molten sunbeams

simmering as ideas, waiting

to bubble into book life.

My words,

wish the window wasn’t

so far away, and the world

outside did not beckon

with so many responsibilities.

My words

want a place

where time stops,

where only they and I exist

and together, we mold worlds.

We listen to our words and wonder how they will find a way. But they do. Somehow, they always do.

Beautiful Shawn, I know the feeling…

I like how this illustrates how words … expressions, as information … have a will and desire of their own, even independent of their author.

Of course. Once uttered or released, words have an entire life of their own, beyond our control. 🙂

      • It is so strange when you hear the response to your words, that are completely different from the intent. Or when someone reads something into a poem that is very different from the source inspiration of the poem. I am always reminded that a poem/story means something different for each reader, because they bring their own life experience to the work.

  9. Amen. I’ve had so many distractions lately. No time to write.:(

    • I’ve been sick. Slept 40 hours Wednesday night to Saturday morning. Still blog a poem every day. Still reading. Still got my term paper done last night (thank heaven for all the prep, so it wasn’t much work to write the final moment).
