A sales lady
rhapodized over my
red and purple shoes.
“I wish I had the guts
to wear something like that,”
she said, sighing.
“I always admire
great shoes on other people.”
.
I told someone of this,
and she said,
“I know what she means.
I used to envy people
who had the courage to wear
red lipstick.”
I smiled,
gazing at her scarlet lips.
“Do you feel super-powered
in that lipstick?”
Her eyes just twinkled in response.
.
We hold ourselves back,
from what will
make our spirits soar,
reveal our natures,
demonstrate our individuality,
because of what?
Fear of censure by dullards?
or
Fear of our own unleashed potential?
.
Embrace the tokens
of your power:
wear shoes that make your feet
dance in the street,
and lipstick that makes your smile
a billboard for your joy.
Be you
in all your
power.
.
(Thanks Julia, for loaning me the lipstick image). π
STANDS UP and APPLAUDS this and message within…
if my natural hair wasn’t so dark (and would break off if bleached) I would soooo dye my hair white with rainbow highlights π
Once upon a time, my hair was very dark, but by 18 those white threads were showing up… What’s a girl to do? Take advantage of a blanc canvas, of course! π (blanc. ha ha. See what I did there?)
Lol sure did π
I love the message. π How dull a garden would be without vibrant colours.
2014 Blessings ~ Wendy
May 2014 bring you joy!
Love this one, a powerful message wrapped in perfect words!!!
Thank you.
Happy New Year!! Here’s to a Blessed and Prosperous 2014!! I have just finished filling out my World of Beauty card from Sephora. I wear very little make-up but lipstick is my go to product and my weakness. I have various colors of lipstick and glosses from Mary Kay and the Body Shop, Bath & Body Works, etc… For me my lips and eyes are my best facial features. I’m not too good with eye make-up and I only do my eyes if I’m going to a party or out on a date since being an eyeglass wearer nobody sees my eyes but Lips those I can make stand out! Also I love to be different, quirky, unusual while still being stylish. HOT RED LIPSTICK!! GIVE IT TO ME!! LOL!!
I’ll bet you totally rock the red lipstick. π I am far sighted, so my glasses actually magnify my eyes. I take advantage of that. π Happy 2014 Deborah!
Oh Yes I Love the color red so much that since all my hair turned white at age 52 I’ve been coloring my hair various shades of Red thanks to L’Oreal Feria! Now I’m on R57!! I’ll be 55 next month and I made the decision to be Fiery Red in every aspect just like my personality. Also keeps the guys and gals guessing which shade of Red I’ll be every 5 to 6 weeks or so!!
And may you
in all your power
be yours
in 2014!
I hope to shine brightly!
Rhapsody in Red eh. I wish you a New Year full of Love and Laughter.

Well, personally I don’t go in for the red lipstick, but I definitely love red footwear. π May 2014 be wonderful to you!
Wonderful message;)
Thanks
Beautiful
Glad you like it.
Colorful and lovely images with which to start the New Year right. I wear my patent leather red clogs and I walk a little taller.
Good girl, Michelle!
Great message, but I will have to forego the lipstick. π
Choose your own token… π
Very inspirational. I like the first stanza a lot!! My only question is why is “or” all by itself in the 3rd stanza? Does it not offset it a little?
Because there are a hundred ‘or’s that are the silly excuses people use for not doing what their heart truly desires. It’s a little pause for the reader to insert his/her own thing, before I add a second.
Ahn good point, I didn’t consider that. It does leave so much more room for interpretation and another dimension to the meanings it could take.
lol. Yeah, we poets are sneaky that way. π
Beautifully written and well attuned to the New Year of being yourself & happy. You should consider this poem for your anthem selection ;).
Thanks, Cassie.
I couldn’t just hit the “like” button this time. This one really speaks to me. Thank you!
I’m glad it spoke.
Very empowering and loved reading this tonight. Take care. Sincerely, Connie Webb
I’m glad. π
