She gathers words

Pulls them to her

Guides them along

Embraces them

Squeezes them

Entices them to dance

with her.

They spin together

in a furious

jubilation a

celebration an

ecstasy of gyration

She lets go

and words fly

spraying her soul

to the edges

of the universe.

I always like the brevity and conciseness of your poems. Is this a new poem? How many poems do you try and write a week?

    • Oh, it depends on the mood. I compose poems all day long, but I don’t always get to record them. Like the one about the last three pale pink roses on the bare bush today. I’ll have to do something with that this week.

Generally, I write a post a day, and generally that post is a poem, so it’s probably around 300 a year now? They’re definitely getting better. Practice makes perfect? or at least, “Practice brings improvement.”

Yes, I wrote this one this evening.

Thanks for being such a loyal reader, Tim. I appreciate your observations.

Thank you. I put a poem with your picture on the edge. I was slightly disappointed you didn’t comment on it. Oh well, such is life.

      • Oh! I didn’t notice! Do you have a link? (Plainly Google Alerts is letting me down!)

If you compose poems all day long then how do you earn any money. Is it your job to write poetry? Are you the landed gentry. I’m not sure I understand, I have to work and be a carer and haven’t that got that much spare time.

      • lol Well, my husband would tell you that I’m a princess…

It’s more of a way of seeing the world. As I’m driving to work, I’m admiring the seasons, and I compose a poem in my head. When I arrive a work, I stop to smell a rose blooming and I compose a poem. As I’m walking through the halls, I see a kid in distress, and I compose a poem. I’m watching a scenario unfold on TV, email, or Facebook, and I compose a poem.

In between, I have a job. I teach kids to notice things in their world, to stop and smell roses, and to understand what they see.

  7. What a joyful poem. Made me want to dance and twirl. I especially love the last….”words fly spraying her soul to the edges of the universe”. Wonderful! 🙂

  8. I like this one a lot. Very well framed, and quite vividly written. You can almost see the act of writing taking place…

I love this poem. Very creative and beautiful!

  14. I love this poem! Not coincidentally (because there are no coincidences), I have a poem called “Poertry, My Love,” that has a similar feel to it. I believe the title of the post is actutally: “Poem as Post: A Reply to ‘What Is Creativity?'” I would LOVE to write as often as you do. Since ms appeared, I’ve slowed down but I have in folders to type, edit, post, and I still do write a new one once in a while. That and reading others’ poetry are my favorite things to do! I wish you greater success and satisfaction from your work, it’s wonderful and inspiring.

    • Thanks. I have a little sign in my house that is a quote from Emily Dickinson:”Dwell in Possibility.” I think for me, it should say, “Dwell in Poetry,” because more and more I feel that I am.

  15. Shawn, Each of your poems are small literary masterpieces. I never cease to be amazed with your unlimited creativity. You are a Wordsmith Lady!
