You rise from the basement
like Venus rising from the ocean,
your underwear in your hand,
modestly hiding the assets,
like Venus’s demurely draped hair.
Dripping from your outdoor exertions,
you stand on the carpet–
a modern half-shell–
and your beauty begs for
Botticelli,
but embraces me.

Oh I love this one! Really fantastic, striking.
Thanks. 😉
very fine writing.
Thank you.
Awesome description of an everyday event. Love it 😀
Glad you enjoyed it.
Not to be presumptuous, darling, but how does your husband handle being romanticized as Venus on the half shell? Lovely poem, by the way.
Husband? Who said it was the husband? 😉
Touché
I write in a persona frequently, so that theoretically, no one should know which are based on true events and which are interpreting books/news stories/ memories/ from assorted perspectives.
My attorney (who looks a lot like Benicio Del Toro for some reason) advises me to respond that I have no idea what you mean by “writing in a persona” 😉
We often forget to separate the writer from the writing.
Yes Helena. My students often have difficulty with the concept that it’s “then narrator says” not “the author says.” 🙂
That is beautiful.
Thanks!
