poem- again December 8, 2016

The never ending circle

of expectation raised

no effort was applied

of failure achieved

makes me want to scream.

What makes the difference

between students who give up

and those who persevere

to find success?

Perhaps it’s in their mantras:

I don’t care

versus

I care.

Those who say they don’t care, do,

but they simply don’t believe

they can.

Certainly they have to recognise a mantra is needed, then find it themselves. Self awareness or lack of it affects the outcome too.

  2. “I don’t care” is always a dodge.

teaching is a spiritual profession, bless you for it. I wouldn’t know where to begin, i can barely reach myself, let alone someone else.

    My spirit cannot hear you
with all your don’ts and nots
but if you say you can’t
    then, then i’ll believe you

forgive them, for they know not what they do

    • Yes, there is a certain stubborn persistence required to make kids turn their ‘can’ts’ into ‘cans’. I’m not sure I do very well at turning those who are settled into futility, content to be what their labels say.

  4. Sad for so many students.
