When you think
that you’re finished,
that all the Ts are crossed
and the Is are dotted,
that every word is brilliant,
that the reader will be on the edge
of her seat from first page to last,
then you submit your work to your editor,
Who shows you
that you’re wrong.

I had to look it up to get it right ! –
Robert Burns “O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.”
I’m not sure that would always be a good thing.
And so it is and so it ever shall be. I can’t remember the writer, but somebody said something like: “If there’s a line you really really like, cut it.”
Arg!
Always the case. I think of a line that forms the basis of an entire poem, by the end of it, that line has been twisted and changed until it no longer resembles the original thought but something deeper
It’s always good when that happens!
Lol…(sorry!)
๐
You’re allowed to laugh. I laugh! However, the final final final edits and re-writes and revisions have now been submitted for final approval. Fingers crossed there isn’t a need for final final final final edits! ๐
Ah, yes, ’tis the writing life. And the editing life. Congrats on having completed what you hope are REALLY the final edits! ๐
I’m sure there will be more. I have no faith. lol
(and I remembered something I was supposed to fix that I didn’t).
Alas! Isn’t that always how it goes? Be at peace nevertheless: it is said that the carpet weavers of Persia always made sure there was at least one mistake in their designs because only Allah is perfect.
