Teen-agers are

loudly gregarious.

Their laughter magnified by tousles.

People who are afraid of them,

would not be, if they saw them

collapsed upon my drama room floor

giggling like so many puppies,

or arguing about their favourite authors

around the tables in the library.

Though even wolves

are adorable

when they’re little.

  1. Reblogged this on Appleton Diaries – From the mundane to the insane and commented:
I love this poet, the writing always seems to strike a nerve with me. This one made me feel quite emotional.

  2. Annette Rochelle Aben Says:

the best line I have read in ages… …”even wolves are adorable when they’re little”

  3. narble Says:

    Good perspective.

  4. kiwiskan Says:

Can’t understand why people complain about teenagers – I think they’re delightful!

  5. Very sweet. This one evoked a smile.

  6. Wolves, tigers, bears. I will leave the “oh, my!” to George Takei, and note that the beast becomes what we encourage him to be. I had a house full of teens, once, and each of them have turned out to be amazing adults, through no great credit of mine- save that I believed in them, even when their parents didn’t.

    • Sometimes the beast saves all the pleasantness and consideration for non-family, and is more unbearable than bear at home. It’s not about encouragement or faith in what they can be, but some fundamental immaturity that will not allow them to be respectful and responsible with their parents, no matter what the parents do. (Touched a nerve! lol)

  7. wolves are always adorable, though!

    Also enjoying your snow …

    • I’m always happily surprised each year when it shows up. 🙂
(I have no idea now where I set it up on my profile when I first opened the account, but it might be one of my favourite things). 😉

you have such a wonderful “i get it vibe”

    • After over 20 years of teaching, I would hope so. 😉
Today I serenaded my students three times. I am always amused by their faces when I burst into song. My own children hated it. My students are so far just amused or baffled. I like to keep them on the edge.
