I wake to
the gentle snores
and the warm back
of my canine companion,
whose black eyes blink
and sleepy tail thumps once
as I caress his white wooly side.

So faithful.
Yup.
I have 6 dogs so very much enjoyed this poem.
Wow. Six is a lot of canine companionship! I just have the 2. Old men though: 14 and 16 years old. My dad is 100. I figure one of these years it’s going to be bad news coming in 3.
We live in the country without SPCA or Animal Control. People leave dogs on our property and maybe cats but our dogs find it great sport to run after cats. My son and daughter have asked us to take care of their 3 cats…………..so against my better judgement we have 3 cats (indoor animals) The vet likes us though as we bring him lots of business from spaying to neutering to shots to flea/tick prevention.
Yikes. Sometimes it’s good to have a cat allergy. I will never have to adopt a cat from my kids.
Welll they didn’t exactly ask us to adopt the cats, just to find homes for the cats. The chances of finding a home for a cat about the same as winning a lottery………………so they became our room mates. No one ever owns a cat, they just grace you with their presence and they give you the privilege to wait on them hand and foot. There will be a post about this soon.
lol
So lovely! 🙂
Thanks.
I’d never dare talk about my husband like that… 🙂

I have “Marley and Me” open on my lap and suddenly, I’m reading your poem. Some serious doggy- feels.
Get the tissues out!
