(I was just called a “Warrior Teacher Knitting Goddess”
I think that might be my favourite compliment ever).
.
.
I am weary
Warring with words
is exhausting work
Protect democracy
Fight one battle at a time
under emotional
and financial strain
Ready to go the distance,
and now they announce
a truce, a treaty, an agreement.
The evil despot smiles
and claims a mutual victory
With narrowed eyes
I doubt.
I have seen lies
pour like water from those lips
and I will never trust that truth
comes from her tongue.
The generals say
it is over, if we weary warriors
say it is over.
I am setting down my
metaphorical sword
cautiously
with looks over my shoulder
ready to pick up the picket
and battle again
if the conditions of surrender
prove unpalatable.
Democracy is worth
personal devastation,
but it is exhausting work
being a warrior.

I write about my life every day, one way or another.
Maybe i just don’t read it that way in the past, i will try my best to change perspective….
Lets hope it’s your side that dictates the terms and gets a cast iron agreement that they will be honoured.

From what I can see so far, it’s not very satisfactory. I will analyze it closely before I determine my vote.

Thanks, Geo.
It’s not over yet.
Hope you get a good, realistic outcome weary warrior!
Fingers crossed
Lovely work here. I love that this poem comes full circle. The description after putting down the metaphorical sword is my favorite part.
Glad you liked it, Megan
At least you get a vote.
It’s still a democratic process for some of us.
I feel sorry for the party politicians for whom it is not a democratic process. They were gagged very thoroughly. Plutocracy making its presence felt.

Yes- it’s about squirmishes vs battles vs wars. It’s about ideology and values and vision. I do hope the awakened populace does not fall back to sleep.
You’re welcome! 😀 And now, take a long, hot bath and soak those weary bones…you have fought the good fight. Time to retreat and regain your strength should there be another battle. Sending thoughts your way for an outcome that meets everyone’s needs.
Just had a quick one, and now I’m off to picket in the rain.
It’s so metaphorical!
