I bring you
darkness:
The serenity of
blackness.
I gift you
the empty void
of lightlessness,
the blessing of
sightlessness,
so you may
sleep.

Given the real life application of this poem, I was totally tickled! I am imagining you reading it to him like a high priestess!! lolol
lol
Good idea. We’ll have to do some sort of ritual chant when they’re sewn and hung.
A wonderful gift.
He was excited. 🙂
loved the poem ツ
Thank you!
I heart black-out curtains for days when I have migraines & need complete darkness no matter the time of day.
He became fond of them at hotels down south. (We also quite like Italian shutters!) Since it’s light here in the summer until 10ish and light by 4ish in the morning, he wants some to see if he’ll sleep later in the morning. We’ll see if it works!
They’re wonderful – though mine are store-bought. A wonderful gift for those who crave darkness while they slumber. Great poem. *side note* LOL @ Shawn for the ritual chant. 🙂
I could have bought them finished, on sale for $84, but my cheap heart couldn’t handle that price when the fabric (which was nicer) was only $36.
I don’t blame you one bit. I won’t say that I “can’t” sew – because that would mean that I tried to learn and failed … what I will say is that I’ve not learned how to sew, which has, on more than one occasion, forced me into retail prices for things I could have easily done myself. You go girl – not only will your husband love them – but there’ll be pride involved as well.
My family is very ‘do it ourselves’. I just needed my living room chairs recovered, and hired my 85 year old mom to do it. 🙂 I’ve made all the drapes. I quilt. I made some of our paintings. I tiled our landing, built the glass dividers in our entry (used machines at school). Hubby laid all our floors, on the diagonal which is very hard! 🙂 Here’s a photo that shows some of those things:
Reblogged this on Hells Reject- The Neverending Darkness and commented:
Love this poem 🙂
Thanks, Orlando.
I bought black out curtains for my daughter on Tuesday. They want to be able to make it feel like evening when they relax with the TV in Summer.

How nice of you! 🙂
I love ’em black out curtains!
Darkness can be a very good thing! 🙂
I love the dark.. I used to follow the WWE chap, The Undertaker, when he was active… I used to call myself A Creature Of a The Night. He was one of the few fascinating chaps in the WWF…
Hmmm.
Hmmm? Sounds ominous!
Can you wrap that up and send it via overnight delivery? :o)
lol
You certainly are a do-it-your-selfer! Awesome chairs – and I bet that floor was no easy task – kudos to your husband.
Thanks
I love your blog, it is detailed and fun!, I also like this poem jajaja
Thanks Bachatan, I’m glad to have you here!
I love how the simple, everyday things can inspire such lovely and poignant art. 🙂
Someone asked me once how I can write a poem every day, and that is the secret. Every day there are moments that are worth savouring, and how better to savour those small moments, than in a poem?
Exactly! Poetry gives a beautiful meaning to some things that may otherwise be overlooked.
Few words do the trick. And I thought darkness was always awful. Dear me!!!
Ah. Preconceptions!
catching every moment that you cherish and want to hold on to in verses keeps one ‘flowing’in life…you share those moments with others and move on…..GREAT!
Yes. Thanks.
