poem- waking May 19, 2014

I woke this morning

pleasantly foggy and

imagined my day.

What workshops will I attend?

Yes.  That one. This one.

Then I stretched my mind

into clarity and realized

conference is over;

everyone has gone home.

It was a melancholy moment,

before the smile,

savouring memories.

A memory like this one.  My dear husband, grinning broadly with Diana Gabaldon beside him outside the conference banquet.  This is the first time he’s met an author whose work he admires.  I’m laughing because I just had to sprint down the hall to get into the photo.  Despite being with Diana all weekend and snapping many photos of her with/for other people, this moment was the only one I had taken with her myself this year.

P.S. The counter says that this is my 1400th blog post.  Nice to celebrate with two of my favourite people! 😉

I got my grandmother into reading her books to where she loves them, too! 🙂

    • It’s not hard to love them! Diana is brilliant, entertaining, and fun to be around. I was never so delighted to be stuck on the highway for 20 mins due to road work than I was driving her here from the airport! At that moment we were discussing the adventure of being on set for her cameo in the new Outlander TV series (out in August) and it was fun watching her animated face as she described things! 🙂

I bet! Can’t wait for the series (I hope it does her books justice). Glad you got to meet her. 🙂

      • I’ve met her several times. She has done writing evaluations for me at other conferences. She is very comfortable with how Ron Moore is proceeding with the series and has been very pleased with the scripts she’s seen (all of them, I believe). She’s pretty excited, and I think she has a crush on Sam Heughan who plays Jamie. 😉 (Like the rest of us).

Wow, 1400! That’s awesome. When did you start posting? Are you also posting daily? It would seem so…part of my evening blogging ritual is to read, and then naturally like, your post! I read Diana Gabaldon in high school. Love love love.

    • I started May 2010. I try to post daily. Apparently I started my blog 1471 days ago, so I’m only 71 short of a post per day. (Though some days I post two or three, so that’s just an average).

I’m honoured to be part of your evening ritual!

  3. That’s the best sort of disappointment–one that isn’t all sadness, but bolstered by and intertwined with wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Congrats on ur 1400th post. Will wait for more….

  5. Wonderful poem and photo, Shawn and congrats on your 1400th post! 🙂
