“I hated him for as long as I could. But then I realized that loving him…that was a part of me, and one of the best parts. It didn’t matter that he couldn’t love me, that had nothing to do with it. But if I couldn’t forgive him, then I could not love him, and that part of me was gone. And I found eventually that I wanted it back.”
Diana Gabaldon in Drums of Autumn
This selection was on my audio book as I was driving to work today. It seems quite profound.

Yep that is pretty powerful.
So much intensity and honesty wrapped up in a few words.
Shawn that is seriously no kidding. That one has a way of grabbing and not letting go, pestering you to remember.
I’m not sure what it means, but I think I like it! Btw I loved your little poem about the crows
Thanks. I like the crows, too. Might be my favourite from the month.
Spoken as a true poet. Thank you for the many inspiring words you’ve shared.
My pleasure, as always.
Loved this book! She’s a fantastic writer.
She is! Just 16 days ’til she’s here for our Word on the Lake Writers’ Conference 😀 I’m looking forward to helping at the book signing. If you’re in the interior of BC, come on down Friday, May 16, noon to 2 p.m. at Bookinghame Palace in Piccadilly Mall!
Wish I could, but I’m living in Germany! I still have the Outlander series in hard cover and have lugged them around through 6 moves! They always seem to make it to my “keep” pile every time we move. Hoping that I get to re-read it soon.
Better start now- book 8 is released in German in July!
If you love someone and do not quarrel with each other then love becomes monotonous . Actually it shows the depth of your love.
I suppose that depends on how you quarrel.
Very nicely written! The play on words is delightful, and the message…awesome!
Diana is quite brilliant.
Thank you!
Reblogged this on [her] freedom blog and commented:
A quote of a quote of a quote…enjoy!
wow
Thanks.
Hi Shawn, I missed this quote, but it is wonderful, and I love the Gabaldon books, they are still selling very well at my charity bookshop that I run. Blessings Charles.
Diana is amazing and so are her words! 🙂 It’s been a wonderful weekend with her. Sad to see it end. (See today’s post)
That is the problem with really enjoying a book irrespective how long it is it comes to an end and one just wants more! Will look out for the post. have a great week, best wishes Charles.
Yes. I tend to just flip back to the beginning and read it again in that case! 🙂
Ah but there is always another mouth watering book waiting in the wings, it is like trying to loose your characters after finishing writing a novel!
Ha ha. Especially after a writing conference. I got a whack of books signed by authors of interest. Not sure when I’ll find to read them, though!
yes, I don’t know how you find the time to have job, write books, and compose for your blog, it sounds like a 24 hour a day undertaking. I certainly am struggling to do all of this.
Ha. Don’t forget doing the Master’s degree and belonging to Rotary! lol Partly it’s efficiency, partly it’s insanity, partly it’s just not sleeping. 😉
Got to work an hour late today, my pillow was just too comfortable
I confess that it was wonderful to have today as a holiday!
