I wish upon you
like a star.
I find you–
a hot rock cooling
in the field, enveloped in
tendrils of mist.
I turn and tumble
you in my mind
Transform you into
a perfect talisman,
hold you in my pocket
roll you in my palm-
a star to wish upon
for stars are only
burning rocks,
and we are all
stardust.
I hang you
in the heavens
to glow.
I wish upon
the wonder
that is you.
.

Beautiful!
Thanks.
I really enjoyed this 🙂
Thank you.
That’s great, Shawn, really like that one.
I’m glad, Richard!
Heady stuff, that. Being made out of the same stuff as stars. Nice movement!
I agree. Carbon life form made from Carbon star form.
Love!
Thanks
Mellow metaphor lands nicely on the ear in this intimate drawing of love. Excellent.
Thanks
This is a really wonderful poem Shawn. I enjoyed it very much.
I’m glad!
Awesome!!! -ness!!!
Why thank you kindly!
I like the talisman imagery, keeping it in a pocket, hanging it back in the sky. And the glowing/hot rock imagery. Very nicely done!
Thank you.
Beautiful. I’m wondering if you were inspired by the film, “Stardust”? Some very similar (and lovely) imagery.
I have not seen that film, so no.
You possibly should, then. It sounds like it might be something that meshes well with your own aesthetic. (Or you could read the book that it’s based on, by Neil Gaiman). 🙂
Oh, I have read Neil Gaiman’s book. Not sure I knew it was a movie. I can’t remember it though! lol
The extended metaphors work well in this one.
Thanks, June.
