The longest reigning monarch in British history, and the longest reigning female monarch in the world, was Queen Victoria.  She reigned sixty-three years, seven months and two days.

Queen Elizabeth II assumed the throne upon the death of her father, on February 6, 1952.  She has been celebrating her sixty years on the throne this year, but if she can hold on for 3 years, she can smash the record!  She needs to reign until September 8, 2015 to reach the record, so she’ll pass it on September 9th.  GO Your Majesty, GO!

  1. I believe that she will make it. Her family has good genes. I think the Queen Mother lived to be about 105 years old. Plus Queen Elizabeth takes good care of herself despite her nutty children and grandchildren. She has weathered many storms with grace and fortitude. She can do it!

Elizabeth, The Queen Mother was about 3 months shy of 102 at her death. Queen Elizabeth’s father King George, however, was only 56. We can only hope that she has her mother’s longevity. I think she’s is better able to handle stress than her poor father. His brother, who abdicated and forced the job on him was 77 when he died in 1972. I still think it was a rapscallian thing to do, though I suspect George made the better king. He at least had a stronger sense of duty and honour. I would say young Prince William demonstrates similar understanding of the power of his role, which is a good thing. His father is certainly not going to have a long reign, being as he’s already 63…

      • I agree with everything you said. You are our resident Monarchy expert. The American Colonies have been too long separated at 236 Independence Days.Prince William has a good head on his shoulders and he made a good choice with the woman he married. BTW, I love the word Rapscallion. I’ll have to use it somewhere in my writings.

lol I’ve been very fond of the queen since I ‘almost met her’ when I was 6. She almost ran us down outside Buckingham Palace in March (well, her driver did), as well. If we hadn’t been standing by the Canada Gate, it’d have been a close thing! 🙂 (That’s the story, and I’m sticking to it!)

Here’s a post from 3 years ago. Tomorrow, Queen Elizabeth becomes England’s longest reigning monarch!
