We are waiting.
The cloud reclines darkly above the lake.
The snow line drops lower.
The cold creeps and seethes.
Inside, bricks channel the chill.
Children vibrate, “It’s coming! It’s coming!”
It’s so hard to sit still and concentrate.
Adults sniffle and cough, mutter, “Soon. Soon.”
They dream of freedom, warmth, of sleeping in.
Christmas holidays can’t come
quickly enough.
I love this!! describes the sense of anticipation so well…nice job. Michelle
Thanks, Michelle.
very atmospheric, and very well constructed, almost prose poetry? ❤
Thanks, Jack.
I’m using it with my students as an exploration of tone. 🙂
It feels odd that Christmas seems to be coming later, this year, due to a “work until Christmas Eve” mentality in our school system.
Really? We are out as of tomorrow. 19 hours away! 🙂
