poem- puppy power November 22, 2016

You bounce

You lunge

You beg

You bark

You insist we pay attention to me, me, me!

Just like a kid with ADHD*

*Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder.  ADHD makes it challenging for kids to sit still; they notice everything going on around them and so are constantly distracted.   Focus becomes a huge issue.  We have to use many strategies to help these kids function in school, like wobble stools (round bottom stools so they move and help fidgeters- personally I loved these at university) and private, distraction free spaces, and an aid who reminds them to work…  My puppy, who is alone during the day in his kennel and therefore desperate for games when we’re home in the evening, behaves the same way!

  4. so true – we’ve got one as well…

  5. It is the rare dog , who won’t knock the newspaper out of his owner’s hands, for the pleasure of a walk, or a belly rub.

    • This morning, he sat expectantly with a twinkle in his eye, waiting for me to notice he’s stolen my glasses (rimless- $$) off the counter… Luckily I was able to grab him on the first lunge and we didn’t have a chase around the house. ARG.

Oh my gosh I just wrote about this on my blog 😀
Your puppy and I would get along very well. Maybe I’m a puppy in a human’s body 😀

  7. We have two dogs in our office just like this! Dusty & Annie!

I like how it mentions in the footnote that an ADHD’er notices everything around them. I hardly ever see anyone mention that and it makes me happy. The poem has a nice comparison too.
